| | Delay on Startup... i got an issue with VISTA. when my computer boot up after the welcome screen, every thing load up real fast then the hard drive just stop running. 20 sec later it starts to run again. during that 20 sec delay i cant open some programs. EX: diskeeper. it says the service is not started. but after that 20 sec the screen blinks and the hard drive start running again. and i can open any program now. help me with this, i hate this problem. the same thing happens with the wifi network. during the 20sec delay the HP wireless Assistant does not appear and the network system icon has the red x. but i cannot access the network center (nor the control panel). then the screen blinks and the HP WA appears, connects to my works network and everything goes to normal. in the event viewer (performance log) i noticed this message: Windows has started up: Boot Duration : 61354ms IsDegradation : false Incident Time (UTC) : 02/03/2007 20:13:26 and BootTsVersion 2 BootStartTime 2007-03-02T20:13:26.718Z BootEndTime 2007-03-02T20:16:16.398Z SystemBootInstance 92 UserBootInstance 79 BootTime 61354 MainPathBootTime 30854 BootKernelInitTime 28 BootDriverInitTime 838 BootDevicesInitTime 11761 BootPrefetchInitTime 93412 BootPrefetchBytes 464822272 BootAutoChkTime 0 BootSmssInitTime 6301 BootCriticalServicesInitTime 1259 BootUserProfileProcessingTime 614 BootMachineProfileProcessingTime 541 BootExplorerInitTime 1834 BootNumStartupApps 34 BootPostBootTime 30500 BootIsRebootAfterInstall false BootRootCauseStepImprovementBits 0 BootRootCauseGradualImprovementBits 0 BootRootCauseStepDegradationBits 0 BootRootCauseGradualDegradationBits 0 BootIsDegradation false BootIsStepDegradation false BootIsGradualDegradation false BootImprovementDelta 0 BootDegradationDelta 0 BootIsRootCauseIdentified false P.S. my laptop is: tc4400 (tablet pc), core duo 1.83, 1.5GB ram, NTFS 80GB HDD. it came with windows xp tablet pc 2005 preinstalled and i bought vista ultimate x86 (32bit) and did an upgrade. i installed all the hp compatible version from the hp support site. P.S.2) i made a complete pc backup and tried the "clean installation" method. the same thing. aftes installing all the drivers it has the same delay. (during the early reboots it didnt have the exact 20sec delay but it had a 10-12sec delay in the logon screen after typing the pass - welcome). i the upgrade installation i noticed only a 3-4sec delay in the logon screen and the full 20sec delay when the processes start. P.S. 3) with windows xp the statup was a 10sec "job" with no delays and errors... thank you in advance. Alex |

| | Re: Delay on Startup... Hi Alex, It's hard for me to tell if you suspect Diskeeper causing the problem or if you are just refering to Diskeeper as being affecting by the startup delay you have described. I suspect that there is another service or device driver that is attempting to initialize. If you need assistance with Diskeeper, please contact our award winning Tech Support staff at Tech_Support@Diskeeper.com. Thanks, Howard Butler Technical Support Officer Diskeeper Corporation |

| | Re: Delay on Startup... Do you have a home network? If so, have you mapped any network drives or have shortcuts on your destop to a folder on a network computer? If this is the situation: move all network shortcuts into a folder (you can create a new folder on the desktop). If the drives are mapped, reboot the PC or PCs that the mapped drives are on then see if your system boots any faster. I ran into issues with very slow boot times with XP before and it was all because of another PC on the network that mine was trying to connect to during boot up. (Note: If the wireless is not connecting automatically, it would be better to remove any mapped network drives. Your system will wait on the network to time out before it allows Windows to load.
