Another option is to run the Startup Repair accessed by booting the Vista DVD. A Stop error occurs, or the computer stops responding when you try to start Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925810/en-us I use drive imaging to image the system regularly to an external hard drive. I make sure there is a new image before making any software or hardware changes. That way if something borks it, which can't otherwise be repaired, restore the recent image. I adopted this approach years ago. Ultimate, Business and Enterprise come with Complete PC Backup which is drive imaging. I also use Acronis True Image which works well in Vista and is more feature rich than Complete PC Backup. I use both Complete PC Backup and ATI, for redundancy. Glitches with computers are inevitable, doesn't matter the OS, so it's best to put in place a good backup and recovery solution so you don't have to get ****** off about things. Take control of them instead. -- Rock [MS-MVP User/Shell] |
