Hibernation and shutdown problems...

I use Windows Vista ultimate on my DELL. When ever I click hibernate,
restart or shut down, my computer shows a black screen with the disk usage
light blinking randomly. I have all recent updates. Why? I want to be able to
turn off my pc normally!

Hello,

The Inspiron 6000 was designed for Windows XP, way before Vista came
out, so most likely you never had this issue when you first got the
system with XP installed. However, your computer should work with
Vista, but you must update a few things. First make sure that you have
the latest bios update, http://tinyurl.com/249kwf.

When the update is complete, reset the bios factory defaults. To reset
the factory defaults, press ALT+F while inside the bios.

Reinstall your copy of Vista and apply the drivers from our download
site,
http://support.dell.com/support/down...=19&l=en&s=dhs.
Make sure to select Vista for driver language. Let us know how this
works out. Good luck.

Regards,

Dear Richard,

I have just bought a state-of-the-art Dell Latitude D830 machine (Dual
Proc, 2.4 GHz, 2GB Ram). It came with MS Vista Businiss as a
pre-installed OS.

I am facing a problem when ever I come back from Hibernate mode in
which the system fails to continue and it give a message that there is
a "Bad_Pool" in a DOS Screen.

I am very familier with Hibernation and used to use since it was
introduce by MS.

I hope the problem is not with a bad design the newely desinged
Latitude.

Many thanks,

Re: Hibernation and shutdown problems...

Hi,

BAD_POOL_CALLER is a driver error message. One or more of the drivers in the
system is either corrupt, in conflict with another driver, or not compatible
with the hibernate function. It could be a system supplied driver with the
Dell version of Vista, or one added by software installed on the system.

Re: Hibernation and shutdown problems...

Dear Rick,

Thank you for your kind reply.
If the source of the problem is a driver, as you have suggested. How
can I know which one. I've already went to the Device Manager and
found no hardware or software conflict messages there.

Any suggestions?

Best regarads,

Re: Hibernation and shutdown problems...

Hi,

Start by checking for unsigned drivers. Run verifier.exe.

Re: Hibernation and shutdown problems...

Hi,

I run the verifier, no conflict messages where found!

Is there any other steps that I can do to find the source of the
problem.

Best regards,

bu_plus
