Turned off

My computer stayes on 24/7, yet each morning I see a yellow check mark in the
WD icon in the system tray. When I open WD I see a window that tells me WD is
turned off and will not protect my system. Why is it turning itself off, and
how do I get it to stay on all the time?

Re: Turned off

Hi,

Check the Event Viewer for clues. Type it into the search box and check
under Windows Logs/Applications.

Re: Turned off

Rick, I thank you for the guidance but I do not see anything in the event log
pertaining to Windows Defender. After further searching I did find this log;
<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">
- <System>
<Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-Windows Defender"
Guid="{11CD958A-C507-4EF3-B3F2-5FD9DFBD2C78}" EventSourceName="WinDefend" />
<EventID Qualifiers="0">5010</EventID>
<Version>0</Version>
<Level>4</Level>
<Task>0</Task>
<Opcode>0</Opcode>
<Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords>
<TimeCreated SystemTime="2007-06-10T10:42:25.000Z" />
<EventRecordID>25599</EventRecordID>
<Correlation />
<Execution ProcessID="0" ThreadID="0" />
<Channel>System</Channel>
<Computer>George-PC</Computer>
<Security />
</System>
- <EventData>
<Data Name="Product Name">%%827</Data>
<Data Name="Product Version">1.1.1505.0</Data>
</EventData>
</Event>

Hope this helps determine my problem, at this time of the morning my
computer was in an idle state.

Re: Turned off

Hi,

That doesn't tell us much. You'd be looking for an event that causes the
cessation of Windows Defender.

Re: Turned off

Do you have Live One Care? if so, it has a version of defender that is not
compatable with the one that came in vista. You want the one that came in
Vista disabled, just go in and tell it to stop telling you.

Re: Turned off

Thank you, yes, I am running a trial version of Live One Care. This is the
first I have heard about a compatability problem with Live One Care and
Vista. I wonder why they do not publish this information on the Live One Care
web site. Had I known I would have seeked a different approach to security
issues.
