Re: Control panel view issue

I don't know, but have you tried going to folder options on the General Tab
and switching Tasks from Show preview and filters to Use Windows classic
folders. Maybe cycling this will restore the default.

If not that, maybe Reset Folders under view.

Re: Control panel view issue

I also there is a check box for "Always use classic folders" or something
under the View Tab in Folder Options--you might try selecting or unselecting
that--maybe it will reset.

Re: Control panel view issue

Vette,

Above where it says Classic View, click on Control Panel Home and it should
revert back to the Vista Control Panel.

Re: Control panel view issue

If you know what you installed that put the icon in the Control Panel, go
into windows/system32 and search for the .cpl file, it should be the same as
teh icon with a .cpl extension (example java.cpl)... rename it to somelike
(ex. java.cpp) then see if you get the regular control panel back. If so,
go back and rename the changed file back to .cpl and all should be good.

RE: Control panel view issue

I've got the same problem. This problem occured the second time in my system.
The first time the problem was solved by Windows itselfs. I don't know the
reason for that but an application installation is not the reason.

Please help me!

RE: Control panel view issue

Guys,

There was a post by Oly S. that is definitely the solution to all your
Control Panel Home problems. Am attaching it here for your benefit :-)

------ Oly S. Post ----
I've narrowed the problem down to a specific registry key that seems to
control which view the Control Panel loads. As always, be sure to back up
your Registry before making any changes, or you may end up reinstalling Vista
all over again! (At least back up the Registry Key that you are modifying...)

The key that I'm working with is:

{HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Software\Classes\CLSID\{5399E694-6CE54D6C-8FCE-1D8870FDCBA0}\Instance\InitPropertyBag}

I found two string values here: (Default), which was blank, and Target. The
Target value contains the CLSID that controls which view the Control Panel
loads. For Category View, I have "::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}"
(without the quotes, of course), and for Classic View, I had
"::{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}". Switching between the two values
seemed to 'toggle' the Category and Classic Views.

I had to do some searching in the registry editor to find this key. What I
don't know is if these CLSIDs are machine-specific (limited to my personal
computer), or if they are global to Vista (everyone has the same CLSIDs).
You'll have to take a peek for yourself.

RE: Control panel view issue

Thank you! I already looked for some posts like this but I only found some
useless posts. This post really runs. But like the first time the problem
occured on my computer, the problem was gone after one or two reboots...
