Vista - task bar

my sister cleaned our computer and now wen we turn it on the start menu nor
the icons show only a box that has desktop my documnets . how can i put my
task bar and start menu back i go to control panel and click on it but it
wont open .

Try this >In the Start Menu's properties, make sure that under the "Start
Menu" tab, you have the two "Privacy" items checked then click Apply.

Try installing the update from KB 932406.
