| | desktop icons covered up my second hard drive gave up the ghost today. When I disconnected it and rebooted, all the icons on my desktop were covered up by one of the 'non-specific' icons though I could see the correct program icons underneath. How can I correct this? |

| | RE: desktop icons covered up Sometimes desktop icons that you have designated, especially internet shortcut icons, will revert to the generic IE icon. Refreshing the icon cache will often restore your designated icons. If this fails to restore your icons, use the Change Icon instructions to reset your icon. Once you have the desired icon in place, you can set the icon to be retained so that it no longer reverts to the generic icon. Please click on the link below for the tutorial on this: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88...c-ie-icon.html The previous method for refreshing the icon cache is helpful if the iconcache.db file is not corrupt. If it is corrupt, delete the Icon Cache File in C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\iconcache.db. This method may be more helpful if you have black patches over your icons or other icon anomalies. Reboot. The Icon Cache File will be rebuilt and the icons should again be back to what they are supposed to be. "Goffin" wrote: Quote: > my second hard drive gave up the ghost today. | Windows Vista x64 Ultimate | Re: desktop icons covered up Actually, this sounds for like a case where the Shortcut Overlay Icon (nor mall a tiny little box with an arrow) has become corrupted. Can't remember though how to fix it. Any takers? |
