Aero Glass; Can I get it to work?

I have an nVidia GeForce FX Go5700 Graphics Card (128MB)
1GB Ram
1.8Ghz Pentium

I ran the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and it said I could use the Aero
glass UI with my computer setup.

I only have a rating of 2; it says it cannot detect "gaming graphics", but
it gives that section a rating of 3.4. All ratings are in the 3 range with
the exception of the graphics card, which got a 2.0 rating (I downloaded the
most recent driver using the Windows Update feature.)

Am I hopeless to get the glass UI? What's up here? Is there a way for
Windows to recognize my gaming graphics?

Thanks VERY MUCH.

Your display adapter is on the list of 'cards' supporting Vista,

<http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html>

but not on the list of adapters supported by the Nvidia drivers for
Vista Beta 2,

<http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_31325.html>

(I have the same situation with my Quadro NVS 280 AGP... I bought a
GeForce 6200 128 MB.)

Yeah, I realized this a couple days ago. It's frustrating. nVidia tends to
give no support to mobile GPUs...that updates are done through your hardware
provider (in this case, Toshiba). I wonder if this card will ever get
updated for Vista? I would think so. I do want glass!

You want glass?

You may

1) buy a new laptop with Vista Premium logo and Vista pre-installed in
2007,

or 2) try to install Suse Linux 10.1 with similar GUI effects;-)

You will remember: Windows upgrading means hardware upgrading;-)

Two options I'm not thrilled about.

There is always hope...

....hope for Vista RC1, for Vista RTM...

....hope for Toshiba to deliver...

Re: Aero Glass; Can I get it to work?

Roy... I have a Geforce 6200 128 TC PCIe, if that's the one you bought you
ought to know that I'm having the same problem as the poster. Nvidia drivers
don't work as expected. I'm using now vista drivers, but still the
performance ratings gives 2 because my card only has 16Mb not the 128mb. In
fact the card only has 16Mb and the rest is taken from your ram (via Turbo
Cache technology). Now I'm thinking on buying a Geforce 6600 with 256Mb
onboard memory.

Until there's a fix from nvidia, I have to use vista drivers and at least
see the aero glass effects...

Willy.

No, it isn't. I wrote "GeForce 6200 128 MB" and not TC.

Turbo Cache is - like ATI's HyperMemory - a fascinating invention of
the marketing people (turbo and hyper sounding much better than
shared;-) but a horror for the techs!

Obviously, Vista needs real VRAM:-)

I have Aero glass with this card using the ATI driver provided by Vista.

Aero glass even works with a GeForce FX 5200 128 MB, especially with
the 128bit version produced by Albatron; that card is some bucks
cheaper than the GF 6200 128 MB.
