Remote Desktop Host for Vista Home Basic

I have two machines running Vista now. My laptop has Home Premium and my
desktop now has Home Basic. I really do like this OS.

But, not having the ability to connect to my desktop as I did with XP is a
real problem. Does Microsoft have plans or intentions to allow a patch for
this? I'm not pleased at this one piece being missing from the system.
Everything else is exactly what I need.

Joe

Re: Remote Desktop Host for Vista Home Basic

You can't remote to a Windows Vista Home or Home Premium PC with Remote
Desktop. This is not a bug but a limitation set by Microsoft. You need
Vista Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate to be able to remote to it using
Remote Desktop. You can remote to another computer using Remote Desktop
with any version of Vista but most versions can't be remoted to using Remote
Desktop.

Try VNC (http://www.realvnc.com/) or www.logmein.com.

Re: Remote Desktop Host for Vista Home Basic

Hi,

As UnswoleLilDude has stated, the home versions of Vista do not support
being a host for Remote Desktop. You can use one of the mentioned
alternative products (both should work fine), or upgrade the system you want
to have act as a host using Anytime Upgrade:
