None of my programs will connect to the Internet

This problem started a little over a week ago on my Dell desktop running XP.
Nothing will connect. Opera, IE6, Firefox, or any of my online games. It's
not my Internet, both laptops can connect through the wireless router just
fine. Also, the internet connection on the desktop is connected, sending and
recieving packets.

I've checked McAfee, it isn't the problem. I don't even know what set this
off. One day it was working, the next day it wasn't. I would greatly
appreciate it if someone could help me out.

Re: None of my programs will connect to the Internet

Hi Stew,

Check for any installed Windows Updates on the date that it stopped working.
Control Panel/Programs and Features, there is a link to view installed
update. Uninstall those that have an install date that corresponds with the
onset of this problem (KB937143 has been reported to cause an issue with
IE7, but not with other programs, you may want to remove that one first).

Thanks for the suggestion. I think it will work but I can't figure out how
to remove the updates. Could you help me out again?

Re: None of my programs will connect to the Internet

Oh well, deleting all the updates from that day didn't fix it. Any other
suggestions?

Re: None of my programs will connect to the Internet

Ok, I have exactly the same problem. A couple of days ago the internet browsing stopped working. I'm using uTorrent, and it's working flawlessly. It all started a couple of weeks ago, and I read in some posts that Nod32 could corrupt the Winsock stacks. So i started clearing the stack in the command prompt (Netsh Winsock Reset, and ipconfig /flushdns) restarted the computer and i was up and running again. But the other day that didn't do it any more. So I uninstalled Nod32 (which turned out to be a hassle). Anyway, it didn't help, so i did a system restore. Voila, up and running again... for a minute or so until it all came to a halt again. Did a new system restore, perfect for a minute until it all stops (except uTorrent). Something dodgy is going on here.
