Desktop Files&Folders Corrupted after clicking on News Video in IE

Using Vista Home Premium on new Dell laptop. In IE 7.0, I clicked on a video
link for a local news story (www.ksl.com). Screen flickered, got a quick
message about Vista needing to got to Vista Basic (guessing this is the
opposite of Aero), and the video never ran. When I closed out IE and looked
at my desktop, all my Files and Folders were corrupted with names like:
    "3D5DB8DF88EE1D499F3ADB9670FA7FE4000000050042B154029B0.qss". Anything that
was a shortcut was still there... just the files and folders that were stored
on the destop were trashed. Tried Windows Restore, Safe Mode, AV Scan (up to
date McAffee found nothing), etc. Can not figure out if they are salvagable.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,

Right click a file, choose properties. Go to the previous version tab, see
if one is availabe (shadow copies).

Re: Desktop Files&Folders Corrupted after clicking on News Video i

Rick - thanks for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately there is no
previous version tab; only 'General, Security, and Details' tabs. Under the
general tab it says that it Opens with 'Windows Shell Common' but I can't
find any program (even going to MS Online) that associates with a .qss file.

Again, appreciate your offer to help. I'll just keep trying to research, but
haven't found any KB subjects or other people that seem to have encountered
this anomaly. Wish I could get these files/folders back.
