Windows Desktop Startup Error Help!!!

Hi guys,

I was just wondering whether anyone knows how to rectify the following
problem.
On starting up windows vista i get an error message with heading "desktop"
stating the following.
"Could not load or run '""' specified in the registry. Make sure the file
exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry.
It's not a big problem, but hey who really wants to start a computer and be
welcomed by an error. lol.
Also the error is correct it does not specify a file that is required, it
exactly as written above. This error comes up after loading desktop icons,
but before the sidebar is loaded and system tray programs initialised.
Any help on the above would be greatly appreciated.
Also if the resolution uses regedit or something could you guide me through
it coz i'm not all that diligent or confident when touching the registry.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Windows Desktop Startup Error Help!!!

Hi Con,

Click Start, type "msinfo32.exe" and press {ENTER}
Navigate to "Software Environment" and select the "Startup Programs" option
From the File menu, choose "Export" and save the listings to a file
Copy the text file contents and include it in your reply.

Re: Windows Desktop Startup Error Help!!!

This one seems to be the culprit:

- - -
Load[0] "" Home-PC\Home *HKU\S-1-5-21-3759801108-965904665-2588745682-1000\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENTVERSION\Windows
- - -

Open Regedit.exe and go to:

HKU\S-1-5-21-3759801108-965904665-2588745682-1000\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENTVERSION\Windows

Backup the branch by exporting it to a REG file.

Delete the value named "Load[0]"

Close Regedit.exe

If that does not help, you may use the freeware Autoruns tool to see if there are any more invalid startup entries.
