Re-use the DVD after back up files

I have Vista Home Premium and use Back up files to DVD-R. I can't re-use the
full DVD even after format this DVD. The space uses by this tool is write
protected.
Do I have to put this DVD to the trash can?

Thanks to help me, if someone knows how re-use the DVD without continuously
buy a new.

Re: Re-use the DVD after back up files

DVD-Rs are write ONCE -- to re-use a disk you need DVD-RWs.

If you want to write over and over again to a DVD then you need the DVD-RW.
This is the only type of DVD (or CD) that I use.

Re: Re-use the DVD after back up files

Hi,

A DVD-R is a one-write disk. You should use DVD-RW media to enable
formatting and rewriting to the same disk.
