| | RE: Installing HP Scanjet 6200c on Windows Vista Home Premium Is there a work around for HP Precision Scan Pro for Vista Home Premium? The last update for the scanning program was for Windows XP. I have had the scanner for about 10 years and still works well. I can not get a new scanner at this time. Would it be better to hang on to my old computer? Ken |

| | Re: Installing HP Scanjet 6200c on Windows Vista Home Premium Try downloading the XP software from the HP website: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList? os=228&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=60120&lang=en and installing that using Compatibility mode and Run as Administrator. Is the scanner connection by scsi or USB? Please answer this question. If by USB then unplug the USB cable from the PC. Delete an icons that may appear for it and uninstall any HP software for it that may appear in Remove Programs. Restart the PC Locate the downloaded exe file from HP (Save it not Run it) and right mouse click on it. Select Properties / Compatibility TAB Check the Compatibility box to turn it on and select XP with SP2 if not already selected Down in the bottom half of the TAB, check the box Run as Administrator and OK your way out. Installation should then start. Do not connect the USB cable to the PC until the installation software tells you to or until you reach finish. When you do then VISTA should find the scanner and use the HP software. Note that the Home versions of VISTA do not include the Fax & Scan utility that is in the Business and higher versions of VISTA so you will be reliant on the HP software or other third party software for scanning. If this does not work, let us know since I have another possibility that I have used with an even older scanner. Certainly hang onto the old computer but bear in mind that if you network it to the new computer most scanners do not work over a network. But you would be able to scan with the old computer and transfer the files to the VISTA one. And it will give you a backup for when the new one goes wrong (note "when" not "if" <g>) |
