Epson Perfection V200 Photo Scanner

I cannot install an Epson Perfection V200 Photo Scanner on my Vista Home
Premium equipped PC. Epson technical support personnel have been zero help.

This is a new model scanner that is supposed to work with Vista. I have
used the software disk that came with the scanner, and I have downloaded and
used the latest driver from the Epson website. I have installed,
uninstalled, and installed both of these numerous times. I always get the
same error message.

I always get a message the software installation was successful. However,
when I plug in the scanner USB cable after software installation, I always
get the error message “Windows found driver software for your device but
encountered an error while attempting to install it.” “The system cannot
find the file specified.”

When I double-click Epson Scan on the desktop, I get “Epson Scan cannot be
started.”

In Device Manager, the scanner shows up under Other Devices with a yellow
exclamation point. When I double-click on the scanner here, in the Device
Status box I get, “The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).”
“The system cannot find the file specified.”

I have tried using different USB cables and plugging into different USB ports.

I tried installing the scanner on my old Windows XP PC, and total
installation was successful. I was able to do a scan. When I installed it
on the XP PC, during installation I got the message “The scanner has not
passed Windows logo testing.” I clicked to continue. I do not get this
message (do not know if I’m supposed to) on the Vista PC.

Among the many things Epson personnel had me try was do a STOP and then
START on Windows Image Acquisition (WIA). This made no difference. Nothing
the Epson personnel have come up with made any difference. So if you can fix
this problem, you can probably get a job at Epson.

RE: Epson Perfection V200 Photo Scanner

Try the following 2 items:

1. Disconnect the scanner. Go to device manager, right click on the scanner
and then uninstall. Reconnect the scanner, you should get a pop-up in the
taskbar installing new hardware.

if that doesn't work,

2. Go to device manager, right click on scanner and click update driver.
Choose install manually in the window that pops-up. Then direct the
application to look in the Epson folder that should be under C: ( C:\Epson)

That's all I got! Good luck.

RE: Epson Perfection V200 Photo Scanner

Neither option worked. (1) When I disconnect the scanner, it disappears in
Device Manager. I tried uninstall when it did appear in Device Manager and
then disconnected and reconnected it to get to New Hardware found. Still
ended up with same error message. (2) Manually directed it to the driver in
c:\Epson; still ended up with same error message.

I keep thinking something is conflicting with it, but I do not know what.
It installs okay on my old XP PC, but not on the new Vista PC. Both PCs have
exactly the same programs except for operating systems.

2008 Update Driver Software – Epson Scanner
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while
attempting to install it.
Epson Perfection V200
The system cannot find the file specified

Have exact the contingency described here. Is the error a result of Epson
Software product
quality?

RE: Epson Perfection V200 Photo Scanner

We got an All in One Epson CX8400 and couldn't get the scanner installed.
These are the steps we took to finally solve the problem after Epson told us
is was the WIA service in Windows. Didn't seem to be because we got the same
error message whether WIA was on or off.

We downloaded the newest drivers from the website (Epson12347.exe). Updated
the system BIOS and did a clean install of the system to rid ourselves of any
Epson files installed since we didn't feel that we were getting rid of
everything.

When the system was rebooted I ran the Epson12347 program which made and
Espon folder off the C: drive with drivers in it. I then plugged in the
scanner. When the found new hardware came up I directed it to the Epson
folder. Scanner was installed and worked! The Found new hardware was
activated again and this time the drivers it needed were not in the Epson
folder. With much hesitation I put in the install disk. It found the drivers
(I had to choose French or English) and properly installed the printer. I
checked and the scanner still worked.

In then started to load the software that came with the scanner. When I
tried to install the Scan update program, the scanner stopped working and
gave me the same error message as before. I didn't even try to manage it just
went back to the clean install and got everything working and then installed
the manual and the Arc Soft software but not the Scan update utility. It all
works fine now after several days of my husband and I working on this problem.

RE: Epson Perfection V200 Photo Scanner

Thank you for contacting EPSON e-mail support.

The issue you are experiencing is in relation to a communication problem
between the scanner and the computer.

EPSON would also always advise that you have all the updates for your
Windows Operating System which are available from:

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

The next thing that will need to be checked will be the cable connections.
Make sure that the scanner is connected directly to the back of the computer
and is not connected to a USB hub.
If the scanner is connected correctly, please perform the following:

1. Click on “Start” and the “Control Panel”.
2. Click on “Device Manager”.
3. Select “Continue” if you receive an “User Account control” message.
4. In this window, make sure that there are no “Exclamation marks” next to
any of the options listed under “Universal Serial Bus Controllers”. If there
are, this may be the cause of the issue and you will need to contact your
PC vendor for further assistance.
5. Look for a heading labelled “Imaging Device” and click the + next to it.
6. Remove the entry listed by right clicking and then clicking “Uninstall”.
7. Confirm that you wish to remove the device and it will disappear from
Device Manager.
8. Look for a heading called “Other Devices” and click the + next to it.
9. Remove all entries listed below here that refer to an EPSON device.
10. Close all windows until you are back to the desktop.
11. Switch the scanner off and disconnect the USB cable.

Next the scanner software needs to be removed:

1. Click on “Start and then “Control Panel”.
2. In Control Panel, double click on the icon called “Programs and Features”.
3. Remove the items listed below by highlighting each one individually and
clicking on the button called “Uninstall” (if at any stage you are asked if
you wish to restart the computer you must say no) EPSON Twain/EPSON Scan,
EPSON Smart Panel/Creativity Suite.
4. Once all items listed have been removed, close all the open windows back
to the desktop and restart your computer.

Now run the downloaded driver from the below link and follow the on screen
prompts to reinstall the driver.
http://esupport.epson-europe.com/Pro...ZyCoU003D&tc=6

The EPSON product should now be installed and ready to use.

If the issue is still not resolved, please can you try the following.
Windows uses several background programs called “Terminate and Stay
Resident” or TSRs for short. These can be put into the computer when loading
programs such as virus checkers.
They become active when Windows is loading and will remain active without
your knowledge, sometimes these programs can begin to conflict with each
other hindering the performance of both software programs and hardware.

I suggest disabling your Start-up Group Items by following these
instructions (this will not stop these programs and applications from
functioning, it will just stop any memory resident programs from loading at
startup):

1. Click on Start, and type in MSCONFIG in the “ Start Search” field and
press Enter.
2. Press “Continue” If the “User account Control” message appears.
3. Go to the tab titled Start-up.
4.Click Disable All.
5. Then click on Apply and OK but say NO to restarting your PC. Then shut
your PC down completely, leave it for 10 seconds and then turn your unit back
on.
6. Once it has finished rebooting, please try using your product again.
7. If the problem does not reoccur, then you will need to re-tick the files
in MSCONFIG one at a time, until the problem resurfaces. By narrowing down
the programs in this way, you can then work out which program is causing the
conflict.

If the above does not resolve your issue then the issue you are experiencing
may be related to the `Still Image Service` not being available on your
computer. You may need to re-start the Still Image Service.

1. Click on Start > Control Panel (if necessary select ‘switch to classic
view’).
2. In the Control Panel window double click on the Administrative Tools icon
and then the Services icon. Press continue on the “User Account Control”
message if required.
3. In the Services window scroll down the list in the right hand pane until
you can see the Still Image Service.
4. Right click on the entry and click start. Close all the windows down and
try using Epson Scan again.

Finally, if necessary, try the scanner on another computer completely to
establish where the problem lies. If the scanner still does not work on
another computer, then having gone through all of the above it would suggest
that there is a hardware issue with your product.

Followed your proposed procedure exact and the driver installation status is
unchanged the EPSON product is not installed and ready to use it is FAILED
with original reported error message

Note that device manager says that the device driver is unsigned. Is it
possible that Epson do not have an adequate driver for the Microsoft Vista OS?

RE: Epson Perfection V200 Photo Scanner

Hello cordially,

I live in Europe and I have exactly the same problem described.

My model is EPSON Perfection V200 Photo; and previously I bought Epson
Perrfection V10.
I returned the V10 because I thought that it was a problem of this model and
I changed it in the store for the V200.

My OS is Windows Vista Premium.

The error messages that describes my computer they are exactly the same ones
that those that John explains.
And I have also made exactly the same thing that John to try to solve it.
And I have not gotten anything.

I have contacted with Epson Help Center in Europe and they offer me
solutions that neither have worked.

My conclusion--and from my people computer´s experts--it is that the drivers
of this model EPSON they NOT are the appropriate ones for Windows Vista.
Neither the drivers from the CD inside the product box ( that specifies the
logo of WVista ), neither those that are in the Epson Website, presumably up
to date for WVista.

I wanted to know if it exists some of you that it has gotten that this
works.

I have proven ALL the possible alternatives here described and NO has gotten
anything.

I am Lawyer with 28 years of experience and if I confirm that my suspicions
are certain, I will begin possibly legal procedures in the Tribunals of
Justice against Epson.

I would thank to you if you help me from the view of technician in
computers.

The legal aspects I will already assume personally them.

Waiting your help, PLEASE.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE !.

Re: Epson Perfection V200 Photo Scanner

Hello cordially,

I live in Europe and I have exactly the same problem described.

My model is EPSON Perfection V200 Photo; and previously I bought Epson
Perrfection V10.
I returned the V10 because I thought that it was a problem of this
model and I changed it in the store for the V200.

My OS is Windows Vista Premium.

The error messages that describes my computer they are exactly the same
ones that those that John explains.
And I have also made exactly the same thing that John to try to solve
it.
And I have not gotten anything.

I have contacted with Epson Help Center in Europe and they offer me
solutions that neither have worked.

My conclusion--and from my people computers experts--it is that the
drivers of this model EPSON they NOT are the appropriate ones for
Windows Vista.
Neither the drivers from the CD inside the product box ( that
specifies the logo of WVista ), neither those that are in the Epson
Website, presumably up to date for WVista.

I wanted to know if it exists some of you that it has gotten that this
works.

I have proven ALL the possible alternatives here described and NO has
gotten anything.

I am Lawyer with 28 years of experience and if I confirm that my
suspicions are certain, I will begin possibly legal procedures in the
Tribunals of Justice against Epson.

I would thank to you if you help me from the view of technician in
computers.

The legal aspects I will already assume personally them.

Waiting your help, PLEASE.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE !.

Followed your link procedure exact, downloaded Epson Scanner v3.123 and not
surprised that installation of your current suggested Vista tested Epson
Scanner V200 device driver failed.
Microsoft Vista Business OS Device Manager for Epson Scanner driver message
states;

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

The system cannot find the file specified.

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

What does Epson Corporation propose now? I intend returning my Epson V200
scanner to the supplier for a full refund.

What manufacturers scanner model in fact works with Microsoft Vista?

Epson Scanner V200 Driver Set up FAILED message

Epson Scanner V200 Driver Set up FAILED message “Windows encountered a
problem installing the software for your device”.

Email to Epson Support staff 13 Feb 2008. My son is an IT Manager where 350
desktop pc’s installed; I suggest that you are living in cuckoo land because
they have identical FAILED experience when attempting Epson Printers and
Epson Scanners Set-up across a wide range of their pc’s using mostly
Microsoft Windows XP.
I suggest that you cut and paste in your Internet Explorer this Vista Error
message “Windows encountered a problem installing the software for your
device”. There are numerous Internet forum pages showing pc users challenged
with contingencies installing Epson software device drivers.

Your suggestion I refer my query to my hardware supplier is ridiculous, I
suggest that the issue is more likely a combination of imperfect Epson Driver
and Imperfect Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows XP software product.

Perhaps you would like to tell PC World and Acer Corp that their ACER
ACERPOWER M6 SEM 3000+ Vista logo desktop pc is incompatible with Epson
Scanner Vista logo software?

And you forgot to mention that perhaps I should wait another month and hope
that Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1, when released, will fix Epson
Scanner driver installation errors.

I can confirm that I have installed Windows Vista SP1 Hot fix that suggests
cures your problem and guess what “It makes no difference”

Perhaps when there is next released Windows Vista Epson Scanner V200 Driver
you will tell me?
