Re: cannot install Lexmark 3500 - 4500 series printer on Vista Ultimate

I have been having the same problem. I just spoke with Lexmark and here
is how I fixed my Lexmark x4530, so it will print wirelessly with Vista.
After you install the printer check which port it is printing from.
There are numerous posts about setting up TCP ports, etc. etc. YOU DON"T
HAVE TO DO THIS...plus it didn't work for me anyway. If you don't see a
port that is labeled your printer's series number (for me that is the
3500-4500 series), then that's why your printer is not working. Go to
control panel> User accounts and family safety> user accounts> turn user
account control on or off>uncheck the box "use user account control to
help protect your computer>then restart your computer as prompted. After
the restart, go back into control panel>printers and right click on the
printer you are trying to communicate with. Click ports and there should
now be an option of a port that begins with your printer's series
number. Check that and print. Mine works great now!

Re: cannot install Lexmark 3500 - 4500 series printer on Vista Ult

I also have a Lexmark Printer...X3550...and have suddenly (as of today)
started receiving this error message:

Device Monitor Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience.

This comes on as soon as I switch from Copy mode to Scan mode.

The printer (all in one) is fairly new...about 6 weeks...it's worked fine
until today.

I tried uninstalling all printer applications and re-installing. I tried
downloading the drivers from Lexmark. Nothing worked. Still receiving error
message.

Print function (mode) works fine, but it's the scan mode that is getting the
error message.

Lexmark used the Remote Assistance feature and looked around. Lexmark says
it's the Microsoft .NET Framework that's the culprit.

However, even the Lexmark Support Tech (thru Remote Assistance) could not
either repair or uninstall the .NET Framework (2.0) in the add/remove
programs.

I've tried re-installing the .NET Framework from my original operating disk,
and still getting the same errors.

Lexmark says the printer and software are fine. Microsoft says since my
Windows XP is OEM, that it's a gateway problem. Gateway says my warranty
ended back in 2004, however to try to reinstall the .NET Framework.

HELP !!!

I know this thread is old now. However, the wife baught a discounted
X4550 on a shopping trip about 6 months ago.
After hours of installing/uninstalling from the driver/utill disk, and
experiancing nearly all the faults outlined in previous posts - I gave
up.

I actually managed to get it working in a fashion about 3 months ago
using the downloaded alternative driver. ie it would print a test page
from the admin properties box only. Anything else resulted in the now
familier "cannot comunicate with the printer" error.

I did all the stuff about ticking the 192.168.1.32 IP port box to print
wirelessly - it actually went through the motions, telling me that the
print job had completed but nothing came out the printer. Grrr.

I gave up again.

On reading this post I unpacked the acursed printer once more last
week.
This time I went straight to the UAC as described in Maddy600's post
and *disabled it.*
Reinstalled the downloaded driver. Behold an icon in the printers
folder was a good start.
Everything now works, yippee. Both through the USB and wirelessly. That
even includes SCANNING as well.
If I try to re-enable UAC it all goes belly up again.
I swore if this didn't work it was going in the recycle skip.

So from me a heart felt THANK YOU Maddy600.
