Hello Everyone,

Has anyone successfully installed Lexmark X 4500 printer on 32bit Vista Ulimate ??

I have been at it for a few days also with tech support and so far no luck.

I had downloaded the vista driver software from the Lexmark web site cjb3500-4500en.exe - it installs the software but cant find the vista driver


I have tried a clean uninstall, reinstalling the drivers, installing the drivers manually with add printers, and nothing has worked!!! also restored the vista to a before point and reinstalled still no use.

I don't think support is going to help me anymore and I absolutely have no more ideas on how to make this work with Vista Ulimate 32bit. So I want to know if I am alone out there, or if anyone has had success installing their Lexmark X4500 printer...

Have you solved this problem? I just bought one tonight and have the same
issue on a 3500 which uses the same driver. Vista Ultimate here as well.

Hello everyone I have the same problem . I have a lexmark X3550 all-in-one. I have down loaded the driver cjb3500-4500en.exe for lexmark wed site. I had to go into my regedit to fully unstall the drivers that came with the printer. I was able to inslall the drivers for the web site but now I have and error that says communition not availiable. I gone one step forward and two step. What next?

With many hours of fighting and phone calls, yes. Lexmark was no help at all.
They said the problem was not with their installer. At any rate, I had to
manually uninstall all my usb devices, and then let them reinstall. When it
came up and choked on the Lexmark, I did a update drivers manually and found
the drivers I needed to install in
Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository. Look for the folders marked
lxdiprc.inf and lxdiscan.inf. Good luck. I had to do this several times
before it finally took. In fact, it kept on knocking out all of my other usb
drivers for some odd reason, but with much effort and frustration managed to
get them all installed and working. I think MS needs to do some serious work
on Vista. Personally I dont it should have been released yet being this
buggy.

Try doing this steps, it might help you solve your problem.

1. Uninstall the printer driver first on your computer.
2. Go to registry by typing "regedit" on the start & search box that you can find when you click on the start pearl.
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES and open the software folder and find the lexmark folder there and delete that folder.
3. Try to go to ftp.lexmark.com and find the VISTAREG software and follow the procedures.
All you have to do is download the VistaReg and the BacktoNorm batch Files.Run the VistaReg File As Administrator( it will log you off automatically )Click on the Ease of Access on the Log In ScreenClick the second one down ( Make Items on the Screen Larger ( Magnifier ) )Click Apply, and Bring the DOS window in the back to the ForegroundType regedit in the DOS window that opensBrowse to what you wish to Delete ( Lexmark folder or the VID's )Delete the KeyClose the registry, then the DOS windowRemove the CheckMark from ( Make Items on the Screen Larger ( Magnifier ) )Log on to the your User AccountRun the BacktoNorm file As AdministratorDelete the BacktoNorm File4. Download the vista driver for the 4500 printer in the same ftp folder and restart the computer.5. Reinstall the vista driver after the computer restarts and try to print a test page.Hope this would fix your problem. Please do reply if it works.

I fought this for a few hours last night myself. Vista Enterprise on my work
laptop. Originally I got a failure about being unable to create a port. I
uninstalled completely and tried again. The installer indicated it was
successful but I had no printer listed in the control panel. I went through
manually creating a TCP/IP type of port using the Lexmark "type"...that was
closer to working and eventually had me pick the .inf out of the extracted
drivers (none of which are labeled for Vista that I could tell). THEN I got
a failure notification that my admin had set a policy against using NT4.0
drivers (which is a work thing). BUT, is what Lexmark is claiming is the
Vista driver really just an old NT4 based XP driver???? Ridiculous. When
someone figures out what is so great about Vista please let me know.

Hey guys
i fought it for 4 days and found a solution. go to Properties of Printer and change the Port to the actual IP address (i am using it wireless). immediately it worked for me.
