| Guest | printing problem with Brothers HL-1440 and Vista Using Vista home premium on a new Gateway computer -when I try printing to the brothers HL-1440 lazar printer after it has been quite a while; the printer wakes up; the drums turns but nothing prints. If I try to print again while the printer is awake the print is successful. Very annoying. I have loaded in the latest Brothers drivers. This printer never had a problem with my old XP machine. What gives? Are their any settings to change? |

any version of Vista. I used the Vista built in driver so you may want to try that. Tony MS MVP Printing/Imaging

If you reinstalled the printer then almost certainly it reinstalled using the downloaded driver again. That driver needs to be removed from the system, see below for the method. I am assuming the connection is with a USB cable. 1. Uninstall the printer. 2. Unplug the USB cable. 3. Reboot the PC. 4. In Control Panel open the printers folder and make sure that all copies of the printer have gone, if not then delete them (you will need to run as administrator to do that). 5. In the printers folder click on File/Run as Administrator/Server Properties 6. Select the Drivers tab 7. If the driver for the HL-1440 is there, select it and click Remove. 8. Plug the USB cable into the printer and power the printer on. You should get a new hardware found message, let the driver install itself. It is critical that the USB cable be unplugged at step 2. You will now have the built in driver installed. Worth a try. Tony MS MVP Printing/Imaging
