| Vista 32bit Business | Found Solution to having Canon Printers be compatible with Microsoft's Remote Desktop Since more and more people are working at home, I had assumed that someone would know how to get a home printer to print documents from their work computers on their home printer when the printer driver was incompatible with the Remote Desktop. But alas I have gotten no answer. I finally found the answer at the following Web site: Using Your Local Printers While Using A Remote Desktop Connection by Thomas Swaney Milestone Computer Solutions, LLC. BS |

| | RE: Found Solution to having Canon Printers be compatible with Microso This was not the magic solution in in my case. Here are the steps I used to gain Canon RDP functionality. Computer local to printer: - Install drives, verify it works - Share printer - At command prompt, run: `net use lpt1: \\<local computer>\\<printer>` Remote computer: - Download Canon driver INF package to temporary directory, extract. - Add Printer => Local printer -> TSCLIENT(LPT1 <local computer>) - Select 'Have Disk' when it asks for driver. Navigate to the INF file in the directory of Canon drivers you extracted - Select appropriate printer - Print test page Worked for me! | Vista 32bit Business | Re: Found Solution to having Canon Printers be compatible with Microsoft's Remote Des Chris, Is the printer on the local or home computer a usb? Mine is a canon inkjet ip4500 that uses the usb001 virtual port? What do you mean by install drives? Having only one computer at home I cannot share it. Using the lpt1 on your local seems unusual, if you have a new printer. I didn't know that printer companies made parallel port printers now. What does the commands net use lpt1: \\<local computer>\\<printer>` mean? BS |

| | Re: Found Solution to having Canon Printers be compatible with Microsoft's Remote Desktop Net Use ---- Revectors the logical lpt1 port to the network printer que even when the printer is a local printer on a USB port. Variations on this have been around for some time, and were commonly used to get a DOS aplication to work with a "winprint" printer. The confusion factor is due to the old dos schemes and maintaining a level of compatability. "BARBLS" <BARBLS.37qwo3@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:BARBLS.37qwo3@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net...
