Vista no driver for Epson RX620

Epson website says to install driver for RX620 with Windows Vista, just plug
in the USB cable, turn on unit and a driver will automatically be installed.
Boy would that be nice. Windows Update says no driver found for the RX620.

What is weird it works fine when connected to my home network, and used with
as the shared (same RX620) printer on my XP machine. It just won't work when
connected directly. I was able to install the scanner software, so I can
scan, just no print.. Unfortunately Epson does not make printer driver
available on its web site.

So how do you fix this?

So far Epson has not been helpful either... they say plug in the USB cable,
and follow directions,.... right got that... but in the end the installation
fails for no drivers found.

Re: Vista no driver for Epson RX620

This problem sounds like the old, "It ain't my job" response often heard
from people who don't want to do their job.

About a year ago I bought a brand new custom made computer with all the
bells and whistles, including the Windows Vista Home Premium operating
system. My previous six year old computer was running Windows XP and all my
old peripherals hooked up and ran "as advertised" on the new computer,
EXCEPT my EPSON STYLUS CX6400. I no longer had Print Preview, Double Sided
Printing with the option to change to Head to Toe, the ability to exclude
certain pages from printing, and the ability to change the Print Quality in
the pop-up Print window that appears when I click Print.

After contacting Epson and Microsoft, both on the telephone and through
e-mail, I gave up, because each side blamed
the other side, and told me it "wasn't their job." The only advice I
received that may have worked (from Epson) was buying a brand new Epson All
in One printer which "might" have the included the options I was missing,
but WAS NOT Guaranteed. I don't need a new printer, because the CX6400 is
still "humming along."

It's no wonder all our labor and jobs have been "out sourced" to countries
overseas -- the Americans don't want to do a job unless they are paid an
outrageous price.

Just had to "vent." Have a nice day, and Good Luck...

Re: Vista no driver for Epson RX620

So far no luck... Even though the Vista computer has SP1 on it, Microsoft
has not answered my request for support. BTW: The Epson RX620 is a
certified Vista compliant printer/scanner. Unfortunately it doesn't work
with Windows Vista Premium Home / SP1.

It's up to Epson to provide you with an applicable driver, not Microsoft.

That is not really true... the Epson RX620 driver is built into Windows
Vista see below ;

Windows Vista
Driver Availability: x86 Driver available as part of Windows Vista
x86 Driver available through Windows Update
x64 Driver available as part of Windows Vista
x64 Driver available through Windows Update

So Epson does not have a driver for it. They do provide driver for the
scanner portion however. Meanwhile Microsoft is spinning its wheels too.

Vista Home Premium 32bit

Re: Vista no driver for Epson RX620

I've had the same problems as described in this thread, and came on this forum in desperation. Since I have been sent the following solution from Epson UK, which works fine. Just a small point, when Windows Update is searching for drivers nothing seems to be happening for several minutes, but eventually it all works.

This is the relevant text from their e-mail.

Thank you for contacting EPSON e-mail support.
With regards to your query, please be advised that EPSON have not produced any updated drivers for your printer for Windows Vista.
There are however, alternative drivers included as part of your operating system and can be installed using the Windows Update service. This is not the Windows Update method from the Microsoft website.
To install the drivers, please use the following process:

1. Plug in the All In One product and switch it on.
2. From the Desktop, Click on Start>Control Panel><Switch to Classic View>Printers.
3. In the Printers window click on the ‘Add a Printer’ option. This starts the Add Printer Wizard.
4. Select ‘Add a local Printer’.
5. Choose an existing USB Virtual Printer Port. Do not select an LPT port as the Printer is using a USB connection, we will need to use the correct port. Click on Next.
6. On the next screen you will arrive at the screen entitled "Install the Printer Driver”. Click on the ‘Windows Update’ button. This screen will be split into two parts. On the left hand side you will see Manufacturer and on the right hand side, a heading titled ‘Printers’.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not select the ‘Manufacturer’ and ‘Printer’ model. Click on the ‘Windows Update’ button. Your operating system will search the Internet for the correct drivers, which will result in temporarily greying out your selection options.
7. When you system has finished searching for drivers, you can now select the ‘Manufacturer’ of your product i.e. EPSON. The ‘Printers’ list will now be populated with your product, which you can now click on to select it.
8. Complete the final steps on the Add Printer Wizard and your operating system will complete the install of the drivers for your product.
There are Limitations of the Windows Update driver. The Printer Driver is 'In - Box', type (M) and is not compatible with EPSON Status Monitor.

To view the ink levels for the printer you will need do the following:
1. Open Start Manu and select Control Panel.
2. In the Control Panel open Printers.
3. Right click on the printer icon and select Printer Preferences.
4. In the Printer Preferences Main tab click on the option to “Get Ink Levels” This will then show the ink levels.

Good luck,

Regards,
Roger Jones

Thanks for your input. I found another solution that seems to work.. I
installed the Windows XP/2000 driver. And now it works fine.

Re: Vista no driver for Epson RX620

The process documented below may not work on some OEM computers. It seems
that the OEM update url may be configured instead of the microsoft url. I
ran into this on an HP laptop purchased in Nov07. The problem was eventually
solved in a round-about-way by upgrading to a retail Vista ultimate version
obtained directly from Msoft as part of a windows live seminar series. The
"updated drivers" "should" at least be made available via the IT support
channels/downloads.(I don't know if this is currently the case, or if MS has
imposed any new restrictions on the IT support download areas.) Most corp.
IT departments want nothing to do with Vista at this time. In fact, many
preach "Win2K forever!".
Oh, Well!
