| | WFS fails to start Until several months ago, I was able to scan in Vista Ultimate (SP1). Recently, however, when I start WFS.exe, nothing happens at all. I don't see the application in my task list or on the screen. Any suggestions on how to get it working? T |

| | Re: WFS fails to start You must have some information. Error messages? Event viewer? Changes you made to your system since the last time it worked? How you configured your WFS account? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Tom" <none@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:%23jen6ZOlIHA.6092@xxxxxx Quote: > Until several months ago, I was able to scan in Vista Ultimate (SP1). > > Recently, however, when I start WFS.exe, nothing happens at all. | | Re: WFS fails to start Hi, Russ, That's what's weird - there's NO visual indication that it started, failed, or anything. I'm not too good with the event viewer, but just looked and didn't find any thing.. I just used the SysInternals Process Monitor, filtered by WFS and got a collection of log entries. Nothing jumps out at me. I can see the process doing lots of stuff, and terminating. I've put the log in both pml format and csv for at www.campparadox.com/log/log.htm Maybe you can spot something? To many changes have been made since it last worked to be of any value. But, how does one configure a WFS account? I just want to scan. (Is it possible that installing the HP PSC 1510 All-in-One software screwed things up?) Thanks!! | | Re: WFS fails to start Yup, I hate the HP All-in-one software anyway. As I recall, I installed it because I needed to scan and WFS wouldn't work. So what's your suggestion to get WFS working. Will uninstalling the All-in-one software be sufficient, or is the uninstall not sufficient. Any suggestions? | | Re: WFS fails to start Russ I will have to disagree with you on this one. I use an Epson CX3900 AIO and have absolutely NO troubles with Printing, Scanning, Copying or Faxing. Absolutely NO problems (including fax from scanner) using WFS from the day I installed it. <T> Doesn't the software for the HP printer/scanner have a seperate 'scanner' only shortcut on the desktop like Epson does ? -- regards CL :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Quote: > Of course. | | Re: WFS fails to start There are exceptions to every rule. The fact remains that WFS was not developed to support AIO's and usually doesn't. It is intended for use with standalone scanners and analog fax modems. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "LoneWolf" <LoneWolf@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:EF845761-ACCA-467D-97AB-2A873698AE44@xxxxxx Quote: > Russ > > I will have to disagree with you on this one. > I use an Epson CX3900 AIO and have absolutely NO > troubles with Printing, Scanning, Copying or Faxing. > Absolutely NO problems (including fax from scanner) > using WFS from the day I installed it. > <T> Doesn't the software for the HP printer/scanner have > a seperate 'scanner' only shortcut on the desktop like Epson does ? > > -- > regards > CL > :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: > > > "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: > Quote: >> Of course. | | Re: WFS fails to start I just uninstalled the HP All-in-one software (good riddance!) but WFS still won't start. I'm pretty sure that at one time WFS worked with the HP scanner, but that doesn't matter to em. Any further suggestions, Russ, on getting WFS to start? Also, in your experience, is it possible to use an HP all-in-one in Vista without the HP all-in-one software? Would that require a 3rd party app, or is it not possible? | | Re: WFS fails to start No. WFS was designed to work only with analog fax modems and standalone scanners that meet certain specifications and are on the VHCL. There was consideration given to supporting AIO devices, but the developers were never able to accomplish that. There are anecdotal reports of users who have been able to get WFS to use their AIO devices, but there is no documentation or support for doing so from either Microsoft or the third party manufacturers. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Tom" <none@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uvHy3zZlIHA.1164@xxxxxx Quote: >I just uninstalled the HP All-in-one software (good riddance!) but WFS >still won't start. > > I'm pretty sure that at one time WFS worked with the HP scanner, but that > doesn't matter to em. > > Any further suggestions, Russ, on getting WFS to start? > > Also, in your experience, is it possible to use an HP all-in-one in Vista > without the HP all-in-one software?
