Back in the days of DOS, the PrtScn key used to print the screen. But in all versions of Windows, this works differently, and the name of the key is now an anachronism. To use the key, press it to capture an image of the entire screen, or press alt-PrtScn to capture an image of the active window. Either one captures the image to the Windows clipboard. Once it's in the clipboard you can paste (Ctrl-V) it into any application that supports graphics (Windows Paint, other graphics programs, even your favorite word processor). You can edit or add to the image as you wish, then print it. This ability to manipulate the image in a program before printing it is an improvement over the original DOS method of just printing it. But if you'd like that old facility back, there are several third-party freeware/shareware programs that can do this, such as PrintKey2000 at http://www.sharewarejunkies.com/00zwd2/printkey2000.htm -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup |

| | Re: simple print screen Pressing the Print Screen button copies the screen to the clip board. You then need to paste it into a document. Vista includes (other than the Basic edition) a Snipping Tool. Use Snipping Tool to capture screen shots http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...605b41033.mspx ------- *Report back, please* "srae89" <srae89@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:213E9C81-8EDD-449B-BB57-1A19E7EF33D3@xxxxxx Quote: > does anyone know how to get my print screen button to work? where's the > control located? |

| | Re: simple print screen That is a good definition, it clarifies that I have a problem. When pressing the key it does not capture an image. Is there a way to verify it is set up correctly? I have used the function on other computers but for some reason this computer is not cooperating. I am familiar with the editing possibilities but just want the simple image to be captured. Any suggestions? If it doesn't, something is wrong. I don't know the problem might be, but as I said, it's not a setting somewhere.
