| | Unable to set default printer in Vista Business Hi, We have domain user's who are un-able to set the default printer via the print manager, it is not even possible to find the usual printers option in the start menu or by using the start search box, this is however avalible to the same user logging onto an XP machine. If I log into the same machine as an administrator I have access to printers & am able to set the default printer, I have also tried using the security tab under printer properties to give full access to printer & document management to the everyone user & have even tried adding the user from our domain & giving them full access. Still they cannot manage printers or even find the printers option. Any ideas? |

| | RE: Unable to set default printer in Vista Business Hi, Try this workaround: The default printer is set on a per user basis and so is part of the HKEY_USERS hive. To view the default printer for the currently logged on user view the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Device value. It is of the format "\\LN014\LN.S651.CSP001.HPLJ5,winspool,Ne01:", where the first part is the actual printer share, then the spooler and finally the connection, e.g. network or parallel port. It worked for us.
