USB to Parallel Converter Cable

1.8m USB to parallel converter cable complete with driver. Type A male USB
to 36 pin male centronics connector.

a.. To connect a printer with parallel interface (IEEE 1284) to a PC with
USB port
b.. Easy to install
c.. Power supplied by USB interface
d.. Connector: Centronics 36 pole male / USB type A male
e.. Contents: Converter Cable, Driver CD, Manual

Get looking on E Bay for adapters - may help ?? Enter Usb to Parallel port

This is for using a parallel port printer on a USB-only computer. The
user wanted to print to a USB printer from a DOS program or command
prompt. That would typically be done by choosing 'LPT1' or 'PRN' as the
output. The net sharing I posted earlier generally works unless it's
some program that tries to directly access the hardware (relatively
rare, thankfully.)

Printing from DOS with Windows 2000 or XP

This works for Vista, too.

Re: how to print to usb printer in dos

No Hal, unfortunately this doesn't work in Vista that way.

For hours now, I'm trying to get a dot matrix printer EPSON LQ300 to work
together with a DOS program on a Vista Home Premium 32-bit Laptop without
physical parallel port. I'm using a simple USB -> Parallel cable for about
20,- Euros.

In XP - but not in Vista! - the procedure to get the printer working is as
follows:

The XP-computer has to be part of a network. Internet connection is
sufficient.
connect cable & printer. Drivers are installed automatically by Vista.
Share the printer. Use a short name with no spaces.
As an admin start the console (cmd)
Input: NET USE LPT1: \\Computername\Printername /persistent:yes
After that, DIR > LPT1: will print the directory to the printer

Until here the Vista Laptop does the same as an XP one does!

However, under XP, the DOS appplication works fine, under Vista it crashes
with 'device not ready'

There are many similar complaints to be read on various forums on the web. I
haven't seen any solution yet, however.

So, can you present us a solution to the problem ??

Kind regards,
Guenter Predl
