Vista - Printer stops working when addressed from other network-PC's

My HP-Deskjet is connected to a Vista-64 based PC which runs in a
4-PC-network; the 3 other PC's are XP. There were no problems with the
printer being addressed from one of the XP-PC's but all of sudden the printer
proves to be "off line" on all three. There is no new software installed on
neither PC or network(router).
I'm using HP-software which drives the printer-functions and it operated
perfectly for about 1 year.
Printer-sharing was and is enabled on the Vista-pc.

At discovering this week the problem, I re-installed the HP-software on one
of the HP-PC's and that seemed to solve the problem .... for one day. It
looks like the Vista-PC turns dows the remote access to the printer once it
starts up.

Could it be that a recent security update from MS Vista blocks this printer
sharing?

No it does not make sense but it does work. Hope it helps.

tx for the advice, but unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. I'm getting
convinced that Vista is "blocker", because:
* re-installing HP software on the HP's get's the printer working. Tried it
again, and it lasted for one day
* if I re-start the Vista-PC, waiting behind my XP-ones, you actually see XP
trying to re-establish the off-line situation, but after a moment the message
once again pops up telling me that (in Dutch) Windows failed to bring the
printer on-line.

Any other suggestions?

You might try reloading the driver on the Vista computer. I have more
success sharing the printer from my XP computer doing the Add Printer (local
printer) procedure from f/fgeorge on the Vista computer.
