| | Can't manage or view printers on a Hyper-V virtualised server instance I have a server running Windows Server 2008/64 bit. I have used Hyper-V to create a Windows Server 2003 R2 virtual server which I want to install and use printers on. I have found that from a Vista client, I can connect to the virtualised server and can run Print Management on it, but the printers cannot be viewed from my Vista client over the network, nor can the Vista client's print management console manage or install printers on the WS2003R2 virtualised server. I need this to be able to work because I need the 32 bit WS2003 server to run print queues that can't be installed on the 2008 server because 64-bit drivers are not available. I have checked the R2 server instance and File and Print Sharing is enabled in Network Properties. What else can I try? -- |

| | Re: Can't manage or view printers on a Hyper-V virtualised server instance you need to open the RPC endpoint for the spooler service to accept inbound traffic. This is exactly the same as if one where to install Server 2003 on a stand alone machine, this has nothing to do with hyper-V http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883789 -- Alan Morris Windows Printing Team Search the Microsoft Knowledge Base here: http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | | Re: Can't manage or view printers on a Hyper-V virtualised server instance Ah, OK. Last time we had printers already installed because I only got my Vista box this year. The 2008 server was different, I only had to open the exception in its firewall to start managing printers on it. Anyway your instructions fixed the problem so thanks. -- "Alan Morris [MSFT]" <alanmo@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uo6JmHATJHA.1184@xxxxxx Quote: > you need to open the RPC endpoint for the spooler service to accept > inbound traffic.
