Somehow I removed my printer from my compter (not sure what I did). Anyway,
I've tried to reinstall, with no luck. The disk I have doesn't work with
Vista, so I have gone to the HP website to download info. It downloads, but
it stops when it tries to install. It says "fatal error". Any suggestions?

Is the print spooler service running? If it is not, that would explain why
you do not see any printers.

The printer spooler service is running. I just checked.

I have had a lot of install and random printing problems with my 8180. I
decided to do a clean install of Windows on a new hard drive and install the
OS the antivirus then the printer before installing any applications, no
proplems at all. When I first tried to install on my system the install data
rate was very low. I got the fatal error message. The message was due to the
install program timing out waiting for the printer. When I installed on a
fresh copy of Windows the indidcated data rate was about ten times faster
than on the old install.
