Printing to a lpt port

Hi,

I am using vista home basic, and I am using a dos program which only uses lpt ports for printing. I have a hp deskjet 3820 printer which has both a parallel and usb port but my computer only has usb ports. I have shared the printer and used the net use command to map the lpt1 port to the shared printer name and it says that the command completed successfully. However, if I type dir>lpt1, the printer responds and tries to print but it does not print. Also, if I try to print from within the program, I receive an error saying the printer is not coonected properly.

Can anyone help ?
