Vista - Re: Still Cannot Add Network Printer - Access Denied

Guys,

Sitting here blaming microsoft is easy. they get blamed for everything in
the pc world so why not this too. We're all barking up the wrong tree. It's
the Hardware MAnufacturers we've gotta go after here. they're the ones
writing the crappy drivers and such, not MS. it's like trying to blame GM
for your Sony car stereo not working. useless. GM isn't gonna remake the
car for a few people that have a problem. Same thing here. MS isn't gonna
rewrite an entire OS for people that can't get network printers to install.
you gotta remember we're talking a totally new OS here. ther's gonna be
issues.

I grant you it's annoying, but, let's actually start getting on the right
people's cases here. If enough people go after Hardware
manufacturer's(Lexmark etc.) their gonna have to change the way they write
drivers and such.

This might be true if it was one or two manufacturers. But I have yet to
hear of ANYONE using Vista to connect to a network shared printer connected
to a XP Home PC. If I am wrong please tell lus how you did with detailed,
step-by-step instructions.

I haven't actually gotten anything to work either. that's not what i'm
saying. what i'm trying to say is that you gotta remember that MS in NOT
responsible for writing 3rd PARTY MFGs DRIVERS. Everyone that i've seen here
is running one of the big 3 MFGs printer, Cannon, HP, and Lexmark. Their the
ones we should be going after. the need to write drivers that are going to
install in vista when you try to connect to a network printer. Same thing
occurs in XP. different versions (Pro, HOME, MCE, etc. , don't like
networking either. their not alone. You ever tried to network a AIO printer
in LINUX? Have fun!!! I never could get it to work because you're talking
about 2 totally different OS. Essentialy that's what we're dealing with.
Vista and XP are similar in a lot of ways but, they are 2 different OS. Not
to mention the whole USB thing. The whole point in usb is that you have to
physically plug in the hardware you are gonna use. Kinda hard to do that on
a network unless u got a router that has a USB port u can physically connect
a printer to. Try PHysically pluging the printer into the vista box and
letting vista load the drivers. then change the port to you're XP machine's
ip address and printer name. it should work as vista isn't having to
replicate drivers from the XP machine. I''m gonna try it and let you know
how i make out.

I have an Epson and a Samsung. so if ALL printers are affected then it
might not be the printer companies that are having the problem. It seems
that the one common denominator is Vista trying to access XP Home. That is
MS's fault.

Ok if it's MS's Fault, Why use Vista? The whole point in Beta and RC1
TESTING is just that, TESTING. I don't know if you remember, but XP wasn't
any great shakes either when it first came out.

Another question I'd really like answers to, Besides trying to throw blame
around, is why can you see the shared documents folder on an XP home machine
yet can't connect to the printer? makes no sense. Let's try and see what we
can find out, all this back and forth over who's at fault for what isn't
solving the problem. it's just creating an issue between people when there
really isn't any reason for one.

Sorry, but I've tried everything that has been advised. And none of it has
worked. I'm downloading the latest RC2 now so we'll see if Vista RC2 has
fixed this problem. I don't know why I can see shared folders and printers
but cannot connect to printers. Someone says it is becasue of the way XP
shares printers but there have been no solutions yet that have worked for
anyone I've seen yet.

No worries BigK, as the saying "no harm, no foul" I'm really starting to get
frustrated too. My appologies to u if I came off sounding high and mighty
. I tried installing RC2 but can't get my display to come up now. Had to
do the Upgrade option as the ISO wouldN't burn. Nero kept complaining about
the Lead out and the burn kept failing. GRRRR!!!

So I noticed myself. Finally RC2 Installed last night and no change. I
really wish someone would solve this freaking issue!!! about probably 60% of
the world's computers run XP Home. If Microsoft doesn't fix this it's gonna
really hurt them in the long run. We all can't afford the prictag they're
asking for vista, and right now if I can't get this fixed, I agree with BigK,
No Vista for me. I need my printer!!!
