Vista - Installation problem with HP printer

Hi,

Today I purchased an HP Photosmart C7280 and I can't get the software installed on my laptop, which runs Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I've seen this same problem posted elsewhere, but none of the advice so far has fixed it for me. I've also done everything that HP suggests in their troubleshooting section. HELP!

The software loads to about 94% overall progress, then I get a Fatal Error message saying that "The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. The error code is 2203. It then tells me to search on HP's Web site for "Fatal Error" and either "MSI.Software_Min," "MSI.webreg" or "MSI.GPBaseservice3."

I tried installing the latest driver from HP, and that didn't fix it.

Can anyone help? I've already wasted the better part of an afternoon on this and it's been extremely frustrating.

Another thing to try is right clicking on the software package you
downloaded from HP and selecting "Run as Administrator".

As you can see, you're not alone in this issue.... but HP seem unable or
unwilling to solve it for most folks. I'd suggest if you don't want to
spend more time on this problem, return the unit and get a Canon or Epson
multifunction unit.
