Vista - Print Server issues in MS Vista

I am unable to connect to a Linksys 3 port print server using MS Vista RC1. I
have Windows XP home, Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000 Pro on other machines
that have no problem. I installed the print server driver and the
administration program on the machine with MS Vista. Linksys Print Server
shows up as a port but I am not allowed to configure the port. If I try to
add a new Print Server port nothing happens; no messages, nothing. The
Linksys administration program can see the print servers on the MS Vista
machine and send a test page.
I tried to create a new port using the IP address (it is a static IP
address) but that doesn't work either. When printing I receive a print server
failed message.

I'm thinking it might have something to do with NETBEUI but that doesn't
seem to be an option in MS Vista.

This is a very simple Home/Office network but I need several printers and
they are all hooked to print servers.

add Hi,
To access a network printer in VISTA go to Printers, select add printer,
local printer ,create a new port, when it asked for port name enter
\\machine\printshare
what ever this is for your server. For me this \\3P_PRINTSERV262\LP1
or LP2 or LP3 ( I have three printer attachecd to my server.) This is the
name that shows up in My Network on XP. After that it
askes to load the print driver and creates the port. Hope this helps

Hey Paul,
Thank you for responding.
I cannot use "\\" in the port name. I can put the machine name without "\\"
and without the printshare. However the doc never prints, it remains
spooling.

I was able to get the Linksys Print Servers to work by adding TCP ports, but
it will only work for printshare 1, not the other 2 of the 3 ports.
I also have 1 port that will not work using either the TCP port or the
method you described.
Any ideas?
Does the anybody know if the final release of Vista will operate as WinXP
for connecting print servers?

That's what I attempted to do. Using that format it tells me port not found.
If I put just PServername it creates the port but the doc never prints, just
spools. I assume it's because it does not have the share however, it will not
let me enter the share. I did verify that I'm typing '\\' not '//'.
I'm using Vista RC1 build 5600.

Is the error
The network path was not found?

Then the machine can't view the device. This is a networking issue.

net view \\PServername will return the list of shares or an error.

Alan,
My print servers do not show up in net view. Let me expand that comment;
they don't show up in net view on any of my machines and never have. They are
Linksys. I can print to all of them without incident on the other machines.
Any ideas?
