Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax

We are currently upgrading to Vista (final release).
Our SBS 2003 has a Fax server installed. The fax server is published in the
directory.

Somehow, Vista does not recognize this fax server. As soon as we try to
connect to the SBS fax server, Vista starts some new "Windows Fax and Scan".
However, we are not able to connect to SBS fax from this "Windows Fax and
Scan".

Any idea, how to send faxes from Vista using a SBS fax?

Thanks

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax

Can you provide more detail on the steps you are using and what happens when
you try? I haven't seen anyone report this problem during the beta. I'll see
what I can find out if I have the steps to repro.

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax

Current setup:

SBS:
Version 2003 SP1
Fax services for SBS with one Fax server using an ISDN modem card (AVM)
Fax published in the Directory as \\DomainName\ServerName\Fax
Exchange server 2003

XP Clients:
Connect to server Fax (installed as network printer)
Sending faxes is possible via print dialog or via email (Exchange server on
SBS)

Vista client (upgrade from XP)
Network fax appears in the list of installed printers
When we try to send a fax using this installed fax printer, then the vista
dialog "Fax setup" starts up and requires to connect to a Fax modem or a Fax
server.
A connection to the existing network fax server cannot be established.
Neither of the following path names are accepted:
\\DomainName\ServerName\Fax
\\DomainName\Fax
\\ServerName\Fax
\\Fax

Vista just refuses to connect to the Fax server.
I don't understand anyway, why Vista needs to do a setup, since the Fax is
already connected (from XP)

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax

When I run the fax config wizard, then there are two options - connect to a
fax server on the network or a local fax.
When I try to connect to the network fax server, then the connection to the
existing network fax server cannot be established.
Neither of the following path names are accepted:
\\DomainName\ServerName\Fax
\\DomainName\Fax
\\ServerName\Fax (This is most likely the correct one, since this name is
the one which I am able to connect to from the printer setup)
\\Fax

Actually, there is NO browsing of the directory possible, like in the
Printer setup dialog.

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax

Got it. I'll send this on the the developers to see if they have any ideas.
In the meantime, why don't you post this in an SBS group to see if we can
find anyone else who can reproduce this.
Never mind. I see you already did. All quiet from that front, I see.

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax

You have to enter the server name when you send the first fax... that's
about all I know..

Re: Cannot fax from Vista on a Small Business Server fax

I think you setup a new fax server..not a printer
new fax
Connect to fax server
\\yoursbsservername

try that
