Bob,
Thanks for the patch - it works great, sorry for the slow response I
have been out of action for a couple of weeks.

Cheers

Re: Duplex printing bug head to toe - HP printer

Bob if you are still here.

I'd love to get a copy of the update.. Hp's solutions, seems rather ineffectual

HP Photosmart and Officejet All-in-Ones*-* Reverse Side of Two-sided Printout Is Upside Down in Vista*

Solution
Follow these steps to install a temporary print driver for two-sided printing. Use the temporary driver to work around the issue until HP finds a permanent solution.
Step one: Install a temporary print driver

NOTE: If your product is on a network, contact your network administrator to perform these steps.

  1. On the Windows task bar, click the Start icon ( ), click Control Panel , and then double-click Printers and Faxes .
  2. Click Add a Printer .
  3. In the Add Printer dialog box, click the appropriate port setup for your product, and then click Next .
  4. Under Manufacturer , scroll to and click HP .
  5. Under Printers , scroll to and click hp deskjet 990c , and then click Next . The Type a printer name dialog box opens.
  6. Make sure hp deskjet 990c is listed in the Printer name box, click the Set as the default printer checkbox to clear it, and then click Next .
  7. In the Printer Sharing dialog box, select the appropriate radio button to share the print driver or not, and then click Next .
  8. Click Print a test page to make sure the print driver is working correctly, and then click Close . Click Troubleshoot printer problems to solve the issue if the test page does not print correctly.
  9. Click Finish to complete the installation.

Step two: Designate the temporary print driver for two-sided print jobs
Follow these steps to use the temporary print driver each time you print a two-sided document.
  1. In the program you are printing from, click File , and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
  2. In the Name drop-down list, click hp deskjet 990c , and then click OK to print.

Re: Duplex printing bug head to toe - HP printer

Does anyone know if HP is near putting out a solution for this stunning
set of problem printer drivers?

I'm quite tired of having to reset the gpd file every so often when one
of HP's hidden "update" functions decides to overwrite what I have
previously corrected?

I have been slow in responding to email requests bcause of a hard drive
failure that I have been slowly recovering from.

I do not have any information on HP's schedule for releasing an
official patch.

For those that need a patch for an HP inkjet printer to address the
back side printing upside down in Vista please send me an email with
Vista Duplex and the printer model in the subject line. Send requests
to bobh@xxxxxx.

Regards,
Bob Headrick, MS MVP Printing/Imaging

Re: Duplex printing bug head to toe - HP printer

Hey Bob,

I received the patch you sent me to fix the duplex printing problem
with my HP d135

A bit of background for anyone else who sees this post ...I purchased
a new computer with Vista Home Premium 32 bit about a month ago and
quickly discovered my HP d135 had become all but useless. The driver
installed by Vista failed to recognize the duplex unit, and then when
I selected it manually, the driver claimed a "conflict" between
printing double sided and using plain paper! Printing single sided no
better as the printer would print a line, spit out the sheet, then
print the rest of the page on a second sheet of paper (minus the first
3 lines or so), then start the process all over again for the next
page.

Things are much improved since I installed the patch. So far I can
print fine from Adobe Reader and IE7.

Unfortunately I can't print from Firefox. If I try double sided it
prints nothing on the front side, then prints the first page on the
back side and then stops. If I try to print single sided I get the
same results I got before I installed the patch. Very strange ... I
could print with no problems on my previous computer running XP.

Thank you Bob for making the patch available. Any ideas on the Firefox
issue?

Steve

PS - FWIW, like many others I'm stunned by this state of affairs.
While Googling for solutions to this problem, I found forum posts
dating back to the beta versions of Vista outlining the very same
problems I and many others are experiencing presently in Nov. 2008. I
gather HP provided the defective drivers to MS for inclusion w/ Vista
and am dumbfounded as to why they have thus far failed to address the
issue with the d135 and numerous other models. I've considered
upgrading to a different printer, but surely didn't plan on being
"forced" into it by a lack of functional drivers. I've had good
success with my current and previous HP printers, but must say this
experience makes me hesitant to go the HP route again lest I find my
new printer becomes worthless when MS introduces Windows 7.

Thank you, Bob Headrick!

The duplexing function of my 7410 is now at peace with Vista (32 bit).

Your patch worked perfectly.

Cheers.
