| | Canon Scanner & Colour Printer I am running Windows XP SP2 and planning to upgrade to Vista. The Windows Upgrade Advisor indicates that for my Canon Lide 80 Scanner & Canon LBP-2410 Colour Printer there could be problems. Does the Vista upgrade intallation disk come with the correct drivers for the 2 devices? Regards, Nevio |

| | Re: Canon Scanner & Colour Printer LiDE80 Drivers for Vista (32 bit) are on the Canon website.... which is where I'd look for the Laser Beam Printer drivers if I were you. There are no Canon scanner drivers included in the Vista DVD. However there are lots of them on the Canon website. If you have any worries about upgrading, uninstall the LiDE80 before the Upgrade... and disconnect the printer from the PC as well. -- Cari (MS-MVP) Windows Technologies - Printing & Imaging http://www.coribright.com/windows "Nevio" <Nevio@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:F461C4F4-2565-4572-832C-0FC9D1989ACD@microsoft.com... >I am running Windows XP SP2 and planning to upgrade to Vista. | | Re: Canon Scanner & Colour Printer Hi Cari, I am one step further down the road than Nevio. I've bought a Vista Home Premium laptop. It recognised my Brother Laser 1240 instantly, and painlessly installed the appropriate drivers (from the Vista OS - no external disk source for the driver was not requested). Wonderful!! However I have a Canon LBP-5200 colour laser as well. Although Vista detects and lists the printer (when I ran "Add Printers") on the home network, when it runs the driver installation routine it warns me not to install the driver unless I trust the source. Since the source of the driver file could only be the Vista OS (at this stage), I proceeded. Guess what - I got the dreaded (I thought it had disappeared fully!) blue screen of death for which Windows became (in)famous. I repeated this exercise 3 times, always ending up with the blue screen and reboot. I dug out the installation CD that came with the LBP-5200 when I bought it, but it won't even run on Vista - I get a message screen advising that there are known compatibility issues with this printer. Going to Canon's product page for the 5200 and clicking the drivers link: http://alpha02.c-wss.com/inc/ApplServlet?SV=WWUCA900 shows NO drivers for it. Great. MY advice to people is to check thoroughly ALL their peripherals and software for compatibility issue with Vista. While it might be a more stable, prettier etc OS it seems the folk at Redmond did not put the same effort into ensuring that effective drivers and hardware support by manufacturers was in place PRIOR to the Vista release. Blaming anyone doesn't help of course, so this note is really for the benefit of users who haven’t yet made the switch. While I like Vista at this early stage, being able to print out is a fairly essential feature for even the most basic of users!! -- Always Learning ... about Microsoft changes "Cari (MS-MVP)" wrote: > Try them, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain! > http://www.canon.com.au/products/pri...0_drivers.aspx > -- > Cari (MS-MVP) > Windows Technologies - Printing & Imaging > http://www.coribright.com/windows > > "Nevio" <Nevio@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:7055008A-B6A3-41BD-BD35-4ED7098655FC@microsoft.com... > > Thank you, > > had a look in the Canon website, but unfortunately there is no Vista > > driver > > for the colour LBP printer; do you think that the printer will still work > > with the XP drivers? > > > > Nevio > > > > > > "Cari (MS-MVP)" wrote: > > > >> LiDE80 Drivers for Vista (32 bit) are on the Canon website.... which is > >> where I'd look for the Laser Beam Printer drivers if I were you. | | Re: Canon Scanner & Colour Printer Cari, Thanks for your help. However when I visit the page you mentioned (I had already been there before my post), it does NOT have a Vista driver! The only drivers are for Windows 2000, XP, 98, Me and Mac OSX. By the way, I called Canon Australia yesterday and the support person said the drivers for my printer LBP-5200 were coming from Japan around the first week of May, and to check the web site then. | | Re: Canon Scanner & Colour Printer Sorry Cari, didn't read your post closely enough. I might try the XP driver - but I might also await the Vista one if it's due in 2 weeks. Probably as a service to others reading this, trying the XP driver out and re-posting what happens might be useful. I'll give it a bash!
