| | Can't fax from PC I just purchased a new HP Pavilion Notebook with Vista Home Premium on it, and can't seem to figure out how to send or receive faxes. I used to send faxes from my old laptop, straight from MS WORD, by clicking print and choosing the MS Fax Driver. I can not figure out how to set this up on my new laptop. I also receive several faxes daily, and I like to receive them on my laptop, and view them there. I can not get my new laptop to answer an incoming ring. I have tried to fax to it, and from the laptop never answers the line. There is an HP modem test that I performed on my new laptop, and it said that my fax modem was fine. I know that it is not the phone line, because I can plug it into my old laptop and it works fine. I was hoping that some one could tell me how to get my fax set up on my new laptop. Thanks!!!!!!! |

Thanks!!!!!!! The Vista Home Editions do not have the capability of faxing. You'll need to use third-party software. Do a search in Google Groups Advanced Search for "fax software" or the like and constrain the search to this newsgroup - microsoft.public.windows.vista.print_fax_scan. There have been numerous threads about this. I can't give you a fax program recommendation because I have a standalone fax machine, but the above search should get you what you need. I don't fax from any of my computers. I can't answer your question about all-in-one printers. You'd need to check with the printer mftr. I would assume that the software included with the all-in-one would take care of the faxing capability. The OP was asking about native faxing from within Vista - which does not exist in either of the Vista Home versions. Malke -- Elephant Boy Computers www.elephantboycomputers.com "Don't Panic!" Unfortunately, most of the all-in-ones currently available that work with Vista's various versions are using Vista's universal printer driver. As someone else mentioned, previously, you would use the fax printer which is installed with the MS-Fax component but with most of the Vista versions not including that component it would seem to make faxing from an all-in-one that includes that capability problematic. Of course, if that capability wasn't supported, I suppose the user could simply print out a hard copy and use their all-in-one's extrenal fax capability. -- Michael Solomon |

The printer mftrs. will write updated drivers and you'll be able to use the all-in-one's fax - as long as your AIO is supported in Vista.
