| Re: I need help with Vista/XP an Printing Thank you for your respondes: Yes Cari, the same Workgroup has the same name. Here is the Kicker--I have internet access, and after doing somethings suggested to me by other MVP's I can now share files. But I am still not able to use the Printer. I have done alot of things: Disable Firewalls. down loaded Drivers from Lexmark.com for the XP computer, and the Vista computer. Plus a few other things. Cari or anyone I sincerely hope someone out there can Help me? "Cari (MS-MVP)" wrote: > Let's start at the beginning. Can the new Vista notebook even 'see' the 2 > XP PCs? | Re: I need help with Vista/XP an Printing This KB article explains it all. I used the steps in the Printer Sharing section to successfully share my LaserJet 2500 with my old XP system. Here's the article URL: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/net.../vista_fp.mspx -- Birk Binnard http://www.birkbinnard.com |

| Re: I need help with Vista/XP an Printing I'm having a problem similar to Ric's. Documents on Vista laptop in wireless network with XP desktop will not print to LTP printer on desktop. File sharing between the two works fine, access of internet works fine. I read everything regarding print sharing in http://www.microsoft.com/technet/net.../vista_fp.mspx. Especially noting the heading, "Accessing a shared printer;" though I had followed each step, no printing occurred. This is what does happen: 1. on XP desktop with printer, open printer, and pause printer (so that print jobs queue up but don't print); 2. print a text document from, say, Notepad, on the Vista notebook and it seems (from watching the laptop monitor) to print; 3. the print job shows up in the opened printer queue on the XP desktop; 4. right click on the print job name and select properties which shows that the job size is zero bytes. So an empty print job is being sent and received over the network but not the real data for printing. Can anyone help? "Birk Binnard" wrote: > This KB article explains it all. Vista Laptop trying to print on a Lexmark attached to a Windows XP PC across a wireless LAN. Can see the printers on the Windows XP PC from VISTA and even see the print queue - but can't print to the printer from Vista. Like the respondents - have tried everything on the MS page and a few other things , like adding UDP ports etc.. but no progress. Thought that it might be a firewall problem and so disabled tat on both machines - but again nothing changed. |

| Re: I need help with Vista/XP an Printing Hi Ric, You know - I am beginning to think that although lots of people are having this problem... it might actually be a Lexmark problem. Here's why. I connected an old HO Deskjet812 to one of the Windows XP Pc's and guess what... the Vista Laptop works over the wireless network! No problems with loading the drivers to the Vista Laptop.. nothing like have to connect a local port with \\computer_name\printer_name or alter IRSstacks - no problems at all. I have emailed Lexmark and will await their response with interest! Vista is so unhelpful though - this may still be the cause and certaoinly lots of other people can testify to that.
