That's precisely how XP installed my LJ2200d and VISTA has done the
same. It seems that DOT4USB is a variation that allows for better
communication in both directions -- try a Google on DOT4USB.

Are you using one of the drivers at:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...wareIndex.jsp?
lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1140779&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=1140784&
swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2100

[you may have to click on the last line of that URL for it to work, or
paste it into the browser's address box]

<< I get a notice that says that Windows automatically
installs USB units, and I can only install it if I have a cable to the
LPT port OR COM port. It's not possible to insert a printer cable into
the LaserJet. >>

That is true to a certain extent, at least the first part. What you may
have to do is to install the HP software/drivers with the printer and
the printer USB cable NOT connected to the PC and only plug them
together and turn on the printer after the driver is installed, or when
the Installer tells you to.

If there are any HP software showing in the VISTA equivalent of
Add/Remove Programs then remove it with the printer and cable not
connected to the PC and try installing the download again before you
connect up.

When you do reinstall the software try right mouse clicking on the exe
file name you downloaded and select Run as Administrator -- sometimes
seems to help.

BTW That URL is to the US website -- you may have to look elsewhere if
you have a Danish version of Windows?

Good luck!

I think you encountered one of their support staff!

Microsoft don't write drivers; that is up to the hardware supplier (HP)
and I'm not aware that MS add drivers to the VISTA disk as they become
available, not even sure if they include additional ones when Service
Packs come out (like the first one later this year?).

Did you go to that HP website where specifically for the LJ 3052 you
say you have there are 64bit drivers listed?

If you did download one of the HP drivers, did you run it as suggested
with Run as Administrator selected?

I hope someone here with more experience of VISTA than I have can help
you work around the STOP you describe -- I understand that VISTA 64 is
more fussy about drivers than VISTA 32. Have you thought of using the
VISTA 32 version since there is not much around yet that will really
use the 64 bit operating system?

Yes!

Yes, but I can't install them, when the wizard start, it ask for a
printer port where the device is connected, but I only have USB. VISTA
says it automatically will install USB devices. The printer is All-in-
one, with a scanner and fax too. I have no problems using the
scanner.
Anyway, I have to wait for HP's own driver and go to my neighbor when
I need to print documents.

I'm sorry but I really do not understand that. The driver below is HP's
own driver for your printer for use under XP64.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

HP Universal Print Driver for Windows x64 - PCL6 (use with AMD Athlon
64, AMD Opteron, Intel Xeon and Pentium 4 with EMT64) 3.1
23 Feb 2007 9.1 56K: 22m
512K: 2m

----------------------------------------------------------------

It's located at:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...wareIndex.jsp?
lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=1140779&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=1140784&
swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=2100

What happens if you got to:

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/...isplay=drivers

and use the Wizard to let it detect automatically?

However I suggest you go to:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/su...00815956/c0081
5956.pdf

and download and print out that document and then check if you followed
the instructions. Remember you are not installing a network computer so
the bit about IP is not for you.

I think where you may have come unstuck is when you get to Install a
Local Printer and it says don't do this if it is USB -- try ignoring
that!

Then select Use Local Port and scan down the list -- I have some DOT4
ports: DOT4001 and DOT4002 as well as a Virtual Port for USB devices.

In your first message you said << the other place is under IEEE1284.4
where it's located as HP LaserJet (DOT4USB) >> So you do have a DOT4
port which I understand is a USB port developed for two way
communications.

To rectify this from where you are you many need to delete all
references to the Printer in the Control Panel / Printers and in Device
Manager and start all over again, without the printer cable plugged in
until you have installed the file downloaded from the HP Website.

Failing that, you may prefer to get a technician to install the printer
for you.
