| Guest | HP 6310 Network connected... Visata Fax/Scan does not see as scann I have an HP 6310 All-in-one on my local LAN. I've installed the lastest downloads and hot fix from HP on the Vista Ultimate. Programs that use Twain scanner work fine. MS Fax and Scan does not see it (as a scanner). What's gives? |

I can confirm, the Vista scan and fax applet doesn't see the 6310 but this is probably a driver related issue. While twain compatible applications work with the 6310, perhaps HP didn't include WIA functionality which would have allowed the printer to run using the Vista applet and a simple driver installation as opposed to having to install the entire HP bundle. -- Michael Solomonn |

| Guest | Re: HP 6310 Network connected... Visata Fax/Scan does not see as s I had a talk with one of the principle devs on the Windows Fax & Scan (WFS) yesterday. It turns out that TWAIN is being depricated in favor of Windows Image Aquisition (WIA) and WIA 2. Here's the gist of what will work: Older TWAIN applications will continue to work with TWAIN drivers on Vista. These TWAIN apps should also work with WIA 1 & 2 drivers due to a compatibility layer in Vista. Any application developed using WIA and WIA 2 will only work with WIA 1 & 2 drivers, but will not see or use devices that have TWAIN drivers. WFS is a WIA 2 application, and thus it does not see anything installed with TWAIN. Some manufacturers have multiple drivers available for particular devices, so check thier web sites for updates.
