| Guest | Scanjet 7400C Installed just-released HP driver for 7400C scanner Hardware configuration works fine on XP Initally tests OK under Camera and Scanner Imaging Control Panel When I try to scan using Windows Fax and Scan the I can select the scanner and options and when I press the scan button the scan initally starts then halts. After a while I get a message box "A problem prevented the document from being scanned. Please try again..." I can not try again because the system no longer sees the scanner again and must reboot Problem repeats every time Any ideas? |

| Guest | Re: Scanjet 7400C Some reading for you.. the first link contains the bad news.. HP have discontinued support for your model.. The second link contains info that will, according to those who have tried it, bring life back to your scanner (and many others) HP dropped support for the HP 6300 after the release of XP.. I now use and have used since that time a Canon scanner (lide 30) http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=59553&lang=en http://www.hamrick.com/ "Paul" <carnsux@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:0A7B1AE5-ED5F-4A6E-8A44-4879BD725A3A@microsoft.com... > Installed just-released HP driver for 7400C scanner > > Hardware configuration works fine on XP > > Initally tests OK under Camera and Scanner Imaging Control > Panel > > When I try to scan using Windows Fax and Scan the I can select the scanner > and options and when I press the scan button the scan initally starts then > halts. | Guest | Re: Scanjet 7400C Any luck using the HP XP scanning software running in XP compatibility mode? I have a HP 5470c scanner and the HP XP scanning software works perfectly, although I haven't tried to use Ultimate's native Windows Fax and Scan. I can scan from within Windows Photo Gallery, and 3-rd party apps see it as a TWAIN source OK. Perhaps you could un-install the device and re-install the drivers again? -- Ron |

| Guest | Re: Scanjet 7400C I'd uninstall and install again using Right mouse click and Run As Administrator on the HP file to start the installation. Make sure you follow the HP instructions and do not have the scanner or its USB cable plugged into the PC when you install the software Installation Instructions Run the downloaded file to install the driver. On Windows Vista, you may get a Program Compatibility Assistant warning that the program may not have installed correctly. Click This program installed correctly. DO NOT click "Reinstall using recommended settings." Connect the scanner to the PC after installing the driver. <<---- When the installation has completed, you can delete the downloaded file. |

| Newbie Rep Power: 11 ![]() | Did HP actually TEST these drivers? Paul, I feel your pain. I have the exact same issue (Windows Vista 32-bit Business Edition). The scanner fails to scan in any application I have tried it with (Windows Fax & Scan, Photoshop 7, and Windows Photo Gallery). With Fax & Scan, it begins scanning but halts halfway through, there is a long pause and then I receive the following error: "An error occured while setting scanner properties. If another program is scanning, please wait for it to complete and try again" I have completely uninstalled the drivers using Device Manager, and manually deleted the files out of Windows\System32. No difference. I have also unplugged the scanner, installed the driver, and plugged it in after the fact. Actually - that's another clue... Windows acts like it doesn't know what it is when I do that. If I let Vista search for a driver, it comes up with the HP Vista driver, but the end result is the same. The only thing I can think of (short of basically saying that HP did not fully test this driver and that it is at least partially broken) is that maybe some remnants of previous drivers that I tried to use to get the scanner to work with Vista have screwed thing up. I had previously tried the HP 7400C driver for Windows XP and the VueScan driver. As we all know, the XP driver does not install properly (maybe that's what's causing the problem), and the VueScan driver simply did not work at all for me. The scanner works - I know this because I dual-boot with XP Pro, and the scanner works fine. |

| Newbie Rep Power: 11 ![]() | New version of Vuescan works, but not a solution I just tried the new version of Vuescan - it seems to work with the 7400C very well, however it's not a solution as it's not a free product ($40 USD). Actually, from what I've seen of Vuescan, it's a really nice package. HP still needs to provide us with a working driver for this model of scanner, as promised. |
