Vista - Connecting a Vista machine to a printer shared on an XP machine.

Hi Alan,

I did as you suggested. Set the key to 50 and the printer connected.
Backed it down to 21 and settled there. Thanks again. Please consider
posting these errors and the IRPStack fix on the Knowledge Base as I have
heard a number of similar cases.

Alan,

I'm having a problem when printing powerpoint 2007 (more than six pages)
from a Vista machine through a W2003 Server SP2. On the Dell W5310 printer
it gives a "900.00 SERVICE RIP SOFTWARE" error. If I print less than six
pages it's ok. I also created a local TCP/IP printer and it will print all
27 pages from the same Vista pc.

no clue on this. It feels like a driver issue but Dell would need to
investigate. HP had an issue with Excel or Word in the latest Office
version that caused an Error 49 on several of their devices. They gave us
an updated driver for this class of device.

RIP stands for Raster Imaging Process so it appears to be a formatting or
processing error.

So why does direct printing work? Can you install PowerPoint on the server
and send the 27 job successfully to the printer?

You could also configure the server print queue such that Advanced Printing
Features is disabled on the Advance tab of the printer properties. This
will force all job formatting on the client.

What print processor does this device expect (also on the Advanced tab)?

From the printer doc:

900-999 Service <message>
1.. Turn the printer off.
2.. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
3.. Check all cable connections.
4.. Connect the power cord to a properly grounded outlet.
5.. Turn the printer back on.
If the service message recurs, call for service, and report the
message number and description of the problem.

I have the same problem as the first post, but can somebody please simplify the rest, seems to go on forever and difficult to see what solutions are there.

Since you are using a web interface, you may not realize that this is really
a newsgroup. You will get far more out of this resource if you learn to use
a newsreader. There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use
Outlook Express (XP) or Windows Mail (Vista) since you already have it.
