| | Epson CX6400 Revisited Hello All, Just wanted to share a "response" from Epson with all of you. I've since decided to "look around" for a Canon "All in One" as a result of this "brush off" answer: ----- Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection. Unfortunately, there will be no Status Monitor 3 for the Stylus CX6400 on Windows Vista made available from Epson. Although the Status Monitor 3 allowed for double-siding within the printer driver, the primary function was to monitor ink levels. Hence our focus on that issue. Regarding the print preview, this was not a function of the Status Monitor 3, nor was the ability to set quality of print. The print preview function is generally available through the program you are printing from and should still be accessible on Vista regardless of the printer driver being used. Regarding the print quality, this can still be set using the Printing Preferences of the Stylus CX6400 driver on Vista. ----- Allow me to explain some of the comments above. JAMES: I had written in my second appeal for help, "Nowhere in my 'call for help' did I mention INK LEVELS, but your response devoted a lot of space to INK LEVELS." RESPONSE: Although the Status Monitor 3 allowed for double-siding within the printer driver, the primary function was to monitor ink levels. Hence our focus on that issue. JAMES' NOTE: By the way, I still have the ability to check ink levels with the status monitor in Vista. Duhhh... JAMES: The Status Monitor 3 operating under Windows XP allowed a print preview for ALL of my programs, with the option of deleting certain pages, as the last step before the final print -- no print preview or options under Vista. RESPONSE: Regarding the print preview, this was not a function of the Status Monitor 3. The print preview function is generally available through the program you are printing from and should still be accessible on Vista regardless of the printer driver being used. JAMES: I cannot change the print quality (draft, text, etc.) in the Status Monitor 3 running under Vista, and I could do so when Status Monitor 3 was running under Windows XP. In fact, I have to go into the Control Panel and change the print quality before I open certain documents for printing. RESPONSE: Regarding the print preview, this was not a function of the Status Monitor 3, nor was the ability to set quality of print. Regarding the print quality, this can still be set using the Printing Preferences of the Stylus CX6400 driver on Vista. 4. Lastly, the Epson representative addressed, in the second sentence, double sided printing, but so lightly I nearly read over it. As I may have mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I became a Epson customer several years ago after I tired of buying a brand new HP color cartridge when only ONE color was empty, and the Epson allows me to buy individual color cartridges, which I think in the long run, saves me a few pennies. Thanks for allowing me to "vent." James |
