| | Windows Installer Dialogue appears on startup and app launch I have a PSC 1350 and recently upgraded to Vista OS. I've checked and the printer software works as expected but, Windows Installer Dialogue re-appears every bootup and PhotoGallery is what it is looking for. I've pointed it to the photogallery.msi in hp folder, I've copied the HP Disk as advised per Error 1706 message and I've inserted the disk and pointed it to that file. Windows Installer acts quizzical and continues to look for C:\Temp\HP_WebRelease\Setup\PhotoGallery I'm unable to locate WebRelease which came with XP. 1) If I load Image Zone, Windows Installer reappears and I have to cancel it 4 times before it disappears but Image Zone does load and is functional. 2) If I load HP Director I receive the message This program has known compatibility issues ....... but, it does load and is functional How do I stop Windows Installer from reappearing on bootup as well when I launch either application? -- Gistcheckin |

| | Re: Windows Installer Dialogue appears on startup and app launch Gistcheckin, I'm a little confused here. There is a "Windows Photo Gallery"--I don't think you're talking about that one, you're talking about a Photo Gallery program by HP. Presumably this software was installed on the computer before you upgraded to Vista. Your first effort should be to look at the HP website. They may have an update for the sofware that is compatible with Vista. If all you want is for the dialog to stop appearing you might try going to the control panel, Add Remove Programs & attempting to remove the HP Photo Gallery software from the machine. Let us know if any of this helps. | | Re: Windows Installer Dialogue appears on startup and app launch When upgrading OS, I did not do a clean install. I selected the upgrade feature in order to keep settings. I know about Windows Photo Gallery and it does work. But, this is looking for photogallery.msi and when I've looked for it, it goes directly to HP\drivers\....... where there is a windows installer pkg for photogallery.msi as well as the same found in the HP\disk folder I copied. Pointing to this does not help and when I've used my disk, it says I have updated version and do not need to re-install. ImageZone Plus is the pkg that comes with HP printer software. I didn't want to uninstall the printer software at all and did wonder if there is a Registry Edit that may trigger the Installer into knowing the software is already installed. And thank you for your assistance. -- Gistcheckin "Dan [MSFT]" wrote: > Gistcheckin, > > I'm a little confused here. | | Re: Windows Installer Dialogue appears on startup and app launch Is there an option in the HP setup to just remove their image gallery or is the driver bound up with their cr...value add software? If that doesn't work, you can check out msconfig. This will allow you to look at everything that runs when your machine is started up. PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL with this utility as you can break Windows pretty badly by making bad choices here. The latest software for your printer on the HP Website is for XP -- only the basic printer driver is with VISTA "out of the box". When you are using pre-VISTA software with VISTA and have a problem the best next step is to uninstall it and reinstall it in a special way -- Compatibility mode set to [XP with SP2] and using what is called Run as Administrator. If you look through the discussions here you will see time and time again that this technique works. You say you do not want to uninstall the software and that is your choice but if you do want to get the HP software working I strongly suggest you do that -- I will be happy to take you through the special procedure in VISTA if you are not familiar with it. Please tell us what version of VISTA you are using and how the printer is connected to the PC -- USB cable, parallel cable or network. |
