Vista - Unable to print from certain applications in Vista

Running Vista Ultimate 64 bit and seem to have a problem printing from
certain applications. I can print from office apps no problem and also from
paint. The problem comes in when I try to print from photo gallery or photo
editor my printer will load up the paper like its going to print and then the
print head returns home and nothing happens.

Printer: HP Deskjet 5550 (USB)
And no, I am not buying a new printer. This is the best printer HP ever
built IMO.

Are you using File Print or just clicking on the print icon on the toolbar?

I have actually dont it both ways with the same result. I even uninstalled
and reinstalled the printer to no effect.
