| | Adding network printer error I have a machine running Vista Ultimate receives the following error when I select add printer, add network printer and then select one of the available network printers from the list: Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed (0x00000006). All of the printers available on the network show in the list as available to add, and it used to work from this machine a week ago. When I ask the operator what has changed she says nothing. The spooler service is running, the rpc service is running, the machine can print to a locally connected printer and can also navigate out the network for other tasks just fine. Nothing shows as an error in the event logs and nothing is logged in the windows\system32\spooler\printers folder. The printer I am trying to add works fine for other Vista and XP clients (it is shared from a print server). |

| | RE: Adding network printer error Frizzb: I am afraid I do not have insight here but want to add to the information. I have Vista Business and have been using a HP 4700 color printer. I was able to use the printer, albeit with occasional input errors. Now i cant connect. I downloaded a driver for the HP 4700 color printer but still no luck connecting via "add new printer". The error message I get is similar to yours but different. "Windows cannot connect to the printer, operation could not be completed (error 0x000002e3)" So like wise no changes in the network... I too seek ideas. Bob P. | | RE: Adding network printer error After lots of research I opened a call with Microsoft about this and the tech there has no clue. We implemented a workaround, which I had seem on the web, where you add a local printer and create a port using the name of the network printer as the name of the port. It is working for printing, but I don't have to do this with any other Vista machine and MS cannot explain why I have to with this one.
