| | Vista Basic 64 and installing prgrams? Hi all, I am trying to install programs on my new Vista Basic 64 machine. When I put the cd's in the drive nothing happens even though the auto start is turned on. Is this a permissions problem? How do I make my accout "powerfull" enough to do stuff? thanks, charles..... |

If so, what happens when you double click the setup.exe file? ***** charles wrote: Quote: > Hi all, > > I am trying to install programs on my new Vista > Basic 64 machine. | | Re: Vista Basic 64 and installing prgrams? Hey, The only time that I was able to do that was when I did a D:\Setup.exe command and it eventually said that Vista couldn't handle 16 bit software. I don't think that all of my stuff is 16 bit. If the installer is 32 bit I should be able to install it correctly shouldn't I? thanks... | | Re: Vista Basic 64 and installing prgrams? Hi, In general you can use 32bit software on 64bit o/s. You need to test this with official CDs such as Office 2007 or a recent cover CD from a magazine. Are you saying all your CDs fail in the same way, or are you saying it's just one? ***** charles wrote: Quote: > Hey, > > The only time that I was able to do that was when I did a > D:\Setup.exe command and it eventually said that Vista > couldn't handle 16 bit software. | | Re: Vista Basic 64 and installing prgrams? But not 32-bit drivers. 64-bit Windows will only allow 64-bit drivers (this includes multimedia codecs) to install. -- Steve Riley steve.riley@xxxxxx http://blogs.technet.com/steriley http://www.protectyourwindowsnetwork.com "Gerry Hickman" <gerry666uk@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:uVft2tmFIHA.2004@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi, > > In general you can use 32bit software on 64bit o/s.
