How to create file on c:\

I have an app that creates some files in c:\.
It fails on VISTA on access violation.

Is it possible to enable access to root directory on drive c:

Blocking possible inappropriate access to the root folder on the system volume is one of the new security lockdown features of Windows Vista.

You have two choices here:
  1. Contact the application developer and request an update (recommended).
  2. Try running the application with elevated credentials. You can do this by right-clicking on it's icon and selecting Run As Administrator. Alternately, if you right-click the shortcut, select properties, then go to Compatibility, you can turn on the option to run as an admin in the "Privlege Level"" box.

RE: How to create file on c:\

Short answer: yes.

Long answer: but unless your application is an administrative application
doing so is a really bad idea and would, by definition, make your app
non-Vista compliant. Your app should be writing either into the user's data
directory or into some application specific directory under C:\ProgramData.
