Loading XP over VISTA

Vista is too difficult to operate for me. Is it possible to buy XP off the
shelf and load over the top of VISTA? If so, what are the ramifications?

By "over the top," do you mean keeping all your data and installed
applications?

If so, the answer is no. That's a downgrade, and downgrades are never
supported. If you want XP, you'll have to clean install it. Back up
your data first, then restore the backups and reinstall all your
applications afterward.

My recommendation is that you do *not* do this. Vista is no more
difficult than XP. What it is is different. And like anything
different it takes some time to get accustomed to those differences
and learn how to use it effectively. I recommend that you bite the
bullet and give yourself that time. It may be painful at first, but
the effort will be rewarding, and before very long, the pain will go
away.
