Vista - Permission to change folder name

I have just copied all of my data to my new computer running Vista Home
Premium. Although I am the only user and appear to have all privileges I am
unable to change the name of my folders. I also have tried to remove the
Read Only attribute to my folders, and while it appears to be processing the
request, they all continue to be Read Only. How can I fix this?

You can go to every folder and uncheck the Read-Only property, and all
that's going to happen is the Read-Only property is going to enabled again
by the O/S, because it's just cosmetics, and it doesn't apply at the folder
level.

If you can't rename the folder, then your account doesn't have the
permissions on the folder or there is another account like the Everyone
account that doesn't have the permissions on the folder, and it's
superseding all other accounts and their permissions, even an account that
has Admin rights, as an example.

To take ownership of a folder:

1. Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then
click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
3. Click Edit. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for
an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide
confirmation.
4. Click the name of the person you want to give ownership to.
5. If you want that person to be the owner of files and subfolders in
this folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check
box.
6. Click OK

Thanks Malke - that did the trick. I had checked permissions and appeared to
have all of them, but the further step made it happen!
