backing up a file

I recently ran into this problem and would like to solve it. I copied a file
onto a flash drive then, 24 hours later wanted to backup the same file. I
saved it to the same flash drive and instead of asking me if I wanted to
replace the already existing files, it just made another copy of the same
folder and the files inside it under the same names. I thought that was
impossible and am puzzled as to why I was not able to replace the existing
older files.
Any help will be appreciated.

Re: backing up a file

My Verbatim memory sticks have a privacy zone that can be activated. Maybe
you saved first time while in a privacy zone, and second time just to the
unencrypted portion of flash stick?
