| trojans I just picked up a Trojan somewhere. Window's Defender removed it. Now I'm wondering what I did wrong. A week or so ago, I got a pop-up claiming that I had no virus protection and saying that "they" were going to do a scan. I DO have virus protection (McAfee), so I knew this wasn't legit. I had a hard time shutting it down, but I did. I did three scans in Safe mode (McAfee, Defender and Super AntiSpyware Free) and found nothing. I am wondering if this Trojan came from that and just wasn't detected until now. If not, could it have come from an Email attachment? My friends are always sending me forwarded things which I enjoy. I do have email scanning enabled, and only open ones that say "No unsafe attachments detected". Is it okay to open these forwarded items, or should I not? I have Window's Vista Home Premium. Thank you for your time. -- Sincerely, Abby |

| RE: trojans I failed to give the name of the Trojan my computer was infected with. It is Trojan:JS/Agent.FA Since Window's Defender says that it was successfully removed, is there anything else I need to do? -- Sincerely, Abby "Abby" wrote:

| Re: trojans Generally anti virus apps are not good, but improving, on detecting malaware Obviously McAfee didnt detect it It is often neccessary to use 2 or 3 malaware apps, MS Defender being one. SpyBot & Adaware, free versions, are others often reccommended. You have to explicitly run them, they dont run in the background. I would have expected MS Defender to block the instalation of this trojan, it didnt. "Abby" <Abby@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:648E2270-6961-4B92-918E-78023843DB2F@xxxxxx

| Re: trojans You can leave Defender on, just ensure any scans you have scheduled don't coincide with any McAfee scheduled ones. Its multiple anti virus apps you cannot run together, and often not install, Defender is not an AV app. "Abby" <Abby@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:BE6D60B6-E6B1-40F3-B10D-A11EC5D001DB@xxxxxx

| RE: trojans Defender is crap. Get a good antivirus like Kaspersky. That is a common piece of spyware you got, and is usually hard to remove. If it returns I suggest a re installation. Post Originated from http://www.VistaForums.com Vista Support Forums |

| RE: trojans To Mr. Murphy: I think your anger is directed toward Jason. For the record, I admit that I know nothing. That's why I asked for help! With so many different opinions as to what is good or bad, I decided to have a pro from my computer company take a look at my comuter (by remote). He ran "Hijack This" and found three pieces of malware that had been missed by all of my security programs. Nothing beats an expert eye. -- Sincerely, Abby "Mick Murphy" wrote:

Kaspersky is indeed a good anti-virus program. However, Defender is *not* crap. Moreover, Kaspersky is an anti-virus, and Defender is anti-spyware. There is little or no overlap in what they protect against. For good protection, you need *both* a anti-virus and an anti-spyware software. And when it comes to anti-spyware, one program is not enough. -- Ken Blake, Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience Please Reply to the Newsgroup | ||||||||||||
